Day 89 Bali to Singapore
How typical - last morning in Bali and now its sunny. Forecast is for rain so obviously the weather forecast is as crap as back home; managed an hour around the pool though before we had to leave for the airport. So glad we ordered our taxi early as the traffic was worse than usual, completely gridlocked around Seminyak with cars double parked and just seemingly "abandoned" all over place. We finally made it to the airport though with enough time to spare thankfully. If you have never experienced security at Denpasar airport it makes Heathrow seem like a walk in the park. We had got to used to all cars being checked for car bombs into the hotel but this was something else. You can't even enter the airport unless you have a ticket, then you are subjected to security checks before you even get to check in. Once in the check in queue all bags are "wanded", for what I don't know. We had to add water to our small bottle of whisky as it had already been opened; apparently the oxygen in the bottle can explode in plane, never heard that one before! The gin we had to drink as there was too much oxygen and not enough gin so we were completely pissed before we boarded but seemingly they didn't care about that!! Had a quick bite to eat before we paid to leave the country (not quite sure what happens if you don't pay!) before passing successfully through the normal security only to have everybody's bags manually searched afterwards, we couldn't even take an empty water bottle through, too much oxygen!!! I wanted to say we could breathe into it and then it would be full of CO2 but in a country where everyone else we met was wonderfully friendly, the airport officials had had a sense of humour bypass, so thought better of it. It was a bit of a bumpy flight but thankfully landed before the massive thunder storm hit; we had taken off early and thankfully landed half an hour ahead of schedule. Immigration into Singapore was a slow process and of course we managed to pick a queue where the custom's guy was at least 30 secs slower with each person than the girls in the other booths - girl power! By the time we reached him we really wished we'd picked a different one as he had a sense of humour bypass too; what is it with these people ,can't they manage a smile and a greeting. The airport shuttle to the hotel went smoothly though inspite of the downpour on the way and we arrived at our hotel; Bill asked if we could have a nice light room as some we have had have been really dark, (the assumption by most hotels clerks being the more shade the better, not in my book), anyway he offered us a upgrade to an exec room with complimentary breakfast, cocktails and canapés every evening, internet etc for a really small sum, no contest. We are now on 15th floor with the club lounge 2 floors up overlooking the city having got completely pissed on free drinks so no need for dinner as have had masses of wonderful canapés and trying desperately to focus on typing this. Thunder storm, what thunder storm………
