Day 3 - Hollywood and Universal Studio
Wow a beautiful sunny day - just right for spending the day at Universal Studios. We went back to see Noma at the Chinese Theatre to get a ticket as we had promised her the day before that we would so would get the commission on the deal. Good deal with Starline Tours, the ticket price is the same but they pick you up and drop you off at the hotel for no extra charge - bargain. Seeing as how they seem to charge for most things over here it's good to get something free!
Universal certainly lived up to expectations; loved the backlot tour with all the sets. If we went back again I would probably pay for a VIP pass so that we could actually visit a film set. I'm really glad we didn't pay for a front of line pass though as it was almost empty. The longest queue we had was 10mins and mostly we went straight through without waiting. Judging by the queuing systems it looks like it could be over an hour or so in peak times. Temperature in the low 20's, absolutely beautiful.
The only downside to the day was that just as we were about to go on the studio tour the batteries on the camera died, my fault for not recharging but in my defence it is new and I didn't know how long the charge would last! Fear not though readers I had in back up in the guise of video camera which given the nature of the day was possibly better. Sadly Waterworld was closed but we went all the others and some of them twice. Loved the Simpson's ride and I amazed myself by going on the Mummy rollercoaster in the dark twice! For those that know me well will know I don't do rollercoaster rides at all normally. The Shrek 4D experience was good, I guess this is the way of the future, a 3D picture with a seat that moves and the almost universal, sorry about the pun, desire to ensure that you get wet all the time, ie every time donkey sneezed! One of my favourites was the Special Effects show which gave away a lot of the secrets of film making but I think my overall favourite was The Terminator 2 4D which was also a fantastic show with awesome special effects that went from on stage seamlessly into the movie.
