After leaving Prague, we hopped on a bus to a place called Brno. True to form, I allowed far too much time for unforeseen contingencies and we arrived a little over an hour early at the bus station. Luckily, for the princely sum of 10 crowns - which is what we now believe the Czech currency is called - we switched our reservation to the next bus which was leaving immediately. Lesson: I am always right.
On arriving in Brno, we had the daunting task of finding the route to our campsite which was by a lake a reasonable distance outside of Brno. To aid us, we tried to ask a nearby policeman for help. Unfortunately, he was too busy raiding a sex shop to help us. Priorities. At this stage, I thought that Colin Farrels description of Bruge could easily be transferred to Brno.
Somehow, we got on the right tram line and then realised we had a 3km walk in near 30 degree temperatures with 15kg bags on. Sweat was my overriding emotion, but on reaching the campsite I relaxed and looked forward to a day of sunshine and rest the next day by the lake. The place was very reminiscent of Loch Morlich but considerably drier and midge free.
Due to the somewhat slopey nature of the campsite, our tent ended up somewhat slopey and poor Jack had a bad nights sleep on his yoga mat! By morning, the sunshine had disappeared and my lakeside paradise now truly resembled Loch Morlich!!
The following day as we prepared to leave for Vienna, the sun was out again, making our walk to the ferry (which by now we had discovered made light work of the distance we walked on the way there) another sweaty experience.
At Brno, we managed to grab a last-minute bus ticket to Vienna for under a fiver each and as we waited for the bus I ran off in search of scran. As I was searching, I caught sight of everyones favourite golden arches and, with McNuggets on the mind, I pushed on.
En route, I caught sight of the stunning Brno Castle and thought it might not be such a bad place afterall.
