Munich
Day 55
Friday 25Sept
1255
I’m waiting for the girls to finish work. We were supposed to leave here at 1230 but in true female fashion they are running late. And to make things even better neither of them have packed!! So we have to go back to Eheim befor we can set off.
It doesn’t really matter though I don’t really care if we get to Munich a little late. I reckon it’ll be massively crowded in around there anyway. The plan is to have dinner in Salzburg. The girls have been meaning to go to Salzburg so many times since they got here, but since they’re girls they are unable to plan anything and it hasn’t eventuated.
This morning I got up at 8. Yvette and lucas we’re still asleep so I left them too it and came into work to work out our route for getting to Munich. I left work at 9 and went back to Yvettes to have a coffee and to pack. From here I went out to Europcar to grab our wheels.
I signed for the car and sat in the drivers seat. Instinctively reaching across towards the door for the gear stick. Even though I knew that I was on the other side of the car. Muscle memory still took over and after taking off very slowly again I reached towards the door to change into 2nd.
I went right and almost immediately was thrown off the course I wanted to take, trying to juggle a lane change aswell as work out where I was going, I ended up scraping the front right tyre against a gutter. Upon later inspection I realized I’d done a little bit of damage to it, hopefully nothing for the hire car company to debit my credit card about. The drive was so fun. Its been a while since I’d driven and forever since I’d done so on the wrong side.
Half way home I messaged Ioanna and told her I’d crashed. Not long after I pulled into work and walked into there office, Ioanna was almost in a fit, worried sick. I couldn’t help laughing as she started hitting me.
I’d made a slide show of all the turns between Graz and Munich and she’d printed this out for me. How ever she’d neglected to print the cover page. A page with the title Graz to Munich - KIL-ing (Kiki, Ioanna, Lachy) Beerfest 09. I’d also covered it with people dressed in traditional dress. It was purely coincidence they were all gorgeous girls who were very well off in the bust department, But Ioanna did not want to spend the next 4 hours looking at “boobs”.
The lunch at the cafeteria looked crap so we went up the road to a place that does massive handburgers and ate there. I ate mine and was totally stuffed. Ioanna ate hers and finished off Kiki’s. She’d insisted she was hungary but untill then I hadn’t really believed it.
Friday afternoon sorta draggd on a bit and in the end was a really long day. I did some wtuff in my office and went over to meet the girls at 1. Ioanna was stressing about some work she wanted to finish and was hurredly cutting and pasting when she asked me if she could do the workk on my laptop. The answer was no but when she still hadn’t finished as it was nearing 3 o’clock I told her we could try my laptop. But first I asked her why she couldn’t use her laptop. “Oh yeahhhhhhhhh” was the response “I could us my laptop”. haha, she is so funny.
We got back to the girls dorm and they packed, Stella, an Albanian girl, came into Ioanna’s room. She wasn’t doing anything so we asked her to come with us. She stalled for a little but eventually conceded. The only problem was that she has next to no money, being an Albanian. So we told her not to worry, it wasn’t costing us any money to take her and the extra person would make it more fun.
1030(28 Sept)
Stella is a pretty interesting person, she’s quite a gothic kind of sour person. She’s rediculously thin, and doesn’t smile much, which is probably a good thing, her smile has been massively tainted by years of smoking and is quite disgusting. She’s also pretty suicidal as Ioanna had informed me, constantly mentioning things to hint towards it. To be honest that crap really pisses me off. I love everything about my life and the world I’m in, and the s*** that Stella apparently talks about to me seems really arrogant, like what I think is so awesome isn’t good enough for her. I know she’s nice enough but it’s a bit of a drain. Her being so poor and yet being able to spend som much money on Cigarettes gives me the s***s too.
The drive down was an absolute crack up, the Girls were all really excited and were taking heaps of photo’s. It was all really amusing. Ioanna is sick of me saying that she’s funny so I stated at the start that everytime she said or did something funny that I’d keep quiet but beep the horn. I was constanly on the horn. Driving on the wrong side has been really funny too. I keep reaching to the left for the gearstick and I even reach over my right shoulder looking for the seatbelt everytime I get in the car. Much to the girls amusement.
An hour into the trip we stopped at a “servo” a new word I’d taught the girls and got to Salzburg. at about 630ish. Getting into salzburg I was starting to stress a little and it was giving me the s***’s the girls just taking there time at a servo on the edge of town with there cigarettes. so I hurried them up a little. Ioanna starting whingeing at me and I just shusshed her. I was driving around a foreign narrow European country, in a car that wasn’t my own, at night, on the opposite side to what I was used to. Ioanna then went on to tell me how she doesn’t like being told to shush and that it was hurting her feelings. I was really stresssing at that point and I told her that right now I’m trying to concentrate on the task at hand and that I’m not concerned with her feelings.
We had dinner at an Italian Restaurant. Ionna sulking the whole time. I just wanted to get too munich and park somewhere, and we left abit before 10. We finally got to Munich at about midnight and I found a park in a residential street. We woke the girls up, but it wasn’t good enough, again the girls couldn’t make a decision on anything yet we eventually decided to stay at a park, which in all fairness was a much better spot then the first one we found. It was dark had planty of space, there was pleanty of places to use natures bathroom and I could have easily strung up my bivvie bag if need be.
We’de grabbed a few brews at the last servo we stopped at so after getting settled we had a beer from the boot of the car. It was pretty funny I’d got into my sleeping bag liner and tied it around my waste and it kinda looked like I was wearing a potato sack. at one stage the girls asked me to take a photo of them sitting in the back of the car they stood there and then all of a sudden started screaming as the car started rolling, I’d left the handbreak off. My bad.
After a drink and a bit of a laugh we went to bed, finally , at about 1am.
Day 56
Saturday 26Sept
845(27sept)
0940 (28feb)
I was flat out yesterday and because of the driving hardly had enough time to scratch my face let alone write in my diary. Even when I got home, I fell asleep on the couch in the common room while waiting for Kiki to get out of the shower.
Saturday I set my alarm for 6 thinking this would be heaps of time to get into town, find a park and get to Ned Kelly’s bar to watch the game, this turned out to be fruitless and after finally finding a spot to park that was good enough for the girls I ran the couple of k’s to the bar and got there by 7. When I got there, there was people leaving, “Don’t worry about it guys, you wont even get In the door.” bulls*** to that I thought although there concerns were justified. The place was packed, however I used being 6foot 4 and having the strength of 10 men to my advantage and muscled my way in, I eventually found a vacant piece of standing ground. It was behind the bar and I watched the game from here. I couldn’t see the ftop left of the screen however and had to rely on people periodically calling out the score.
I started talking to the bloke who was standing beside me. Here I was on an IAESTE traineeship, from Melbourne, I’d just traveled to munich with a bunch of foregners who I’d left to sleep coz apparently AFL isn’t too popular in Macedonia. And this guy was in exactly the same boat. However he was on an IAESTE trainee ship somewhere in Germany and was here with a bunch of danish and Egyptians, who also weren’t big enough fans of the AFL to get up at 6am for the grand final.
The game was awesome, and it was great to hear all of Denis Commettees fantastic special comments. It was so good to watch and the place had a great atmosphere, at one point the signal dropped out and all we were given was a blue screen. Everyone started yelling and screeming and eventually started, for no apparent reason, chanting ‘************************’ to which some of the 8am inebriated girls happily obliged. The signal eventually came back on after 3 or 4 long minutes. To a massive roar from everyone in the bar..
Finally the game concluded to an eruption from all the geelong supporters, including myself, and we started singing, terribly, the geelong theme song before heading out the door to go to Oktoberfest. Once outside I left towards where Oktoberfest is held, momentarily calling the girls to make sure that we were able to leave the car there all day, which we were for only 6 Euros.
Myself and Sam got there at about 930 and it was already packed we walked through a couple off tents but they were all full. We eventually found a place that was more like a restaurant, but they had free tables and were serving beer so we sat down at a table that wasn’t reserved untill 1600.
Sam was haaving trouble getting through to his mates, as he was already fully inebriated so I spoke to them on the phone and they eventually met us at the table, the only problem was before they got there a bunch of Italians had joined us and taken up most of the table. This was quickly solved by one of the beer wenches who took us upstairs to a bigger table.
The tables were so crammed in together. And to get in we had to walk along the seat to an empty spot and slide down into it. We drank here for a while and I talked to a lot of sams friends who were surprised to meet an Australian with a modicum of decency, which is more then I could say for sam who was more concerned with ‘saving the queen’ then avoiding spitting all over people when he spoke.
Sams mates were a real motley crew. The guy I’d been in contact with was called Klausse (I was so glad to be drinking beer at Oktoberfest with a bloke with that name), another sam who was a german who was there with his brother, christian and their younger sister, Julie, there was also another girl there except she was really quiet and didn’t smile much so I avoided her. There was also another couple of Iaster guys, one was an Egyptian named Mo who was quite impressed when I asked which city he lived in, in Arabic, apparently he wasn’t expecting to meet an Australian who spoke any Arabic in the middle of Germany.
We left that table soon after to go and find a proper beer tent. This turned out to be much harder then expected as being the middle Saturday and nice weather right in the middle of the festivall meant that a lot of the tents were not only full but the doors were closed. Eventually we found one tent that was slowly letting people in and lined up at a side door. We spent the next half hour slowly trickling in and by the time myself Julie and christian had got in the others had found a space on one of the tables and we squeezed in between some Italians and some French guys.
The Italians weren’t really happy with us pushing in, the alleged to have friends coming back, but they spoke no English so I just said Ferrari a few times which made them smile and I turned back to my friends. The French guys at the other end were pretty much asleep. Turns out they hadn’t slept much in the last few days and were a real drain.
I had so much fun in this tent. We spent most the time standing on the tables singing and chanting nothing in particular whille most the tables around joined in. Most of the tables around us were full of foreigners so I also spent a good portion of the day abusing the New Zealand girls sitting on the table behind me. There were also quite a few Aussies around, all of whom saw my Guernsey and wanted to know the score. “The mighty catters!!!” I’d reply befor breaking into the theme song.
1100(30Sept)
I’ve just been using my camera at work and it’s really sticky, I just remembered how because it was waterproof it made a really funny joke to pretend to drop it in people’s beer steins on Saturday. Haha. Then I remembered at one point I looked at my beer and someone had picked up someone’s sock from off the ground, I think it was sam’s, and put it in my beer. I was way to happy to care, Cats had one a final, I wasn’t going to be deterred by this sock. I just pulled the sock out, threw it at Ioanna and kept drinking. Kinda grosse in Hindsight, but it could have been worse. Haha.
The bar was closing at 11 and we got kicked out. I didn’t really mind though, I’d aquired a splitting head ache and was pretty much over it 14 hours of solid drinking had finally caught up with me.
We left to go and get food, Kiki, myself and sam went and got a bratwurst while the others went to go and see if Australian sam was in the hospital. It took us ages to finally find where they all were and we were pretty over it. My head was drilling me and I was freezing, I’d given my jumper to Julie as all she had on was a singlet.
Finally we met up with the others and headed towards Hauptbahnhof, (central station). We said our good bys and parted, Kiki taking longer then the rest of us with her new lover boy.
We got back to the car about 1. Ioanna and stella had left a couple of hours before and were sound asleep. There was a motor home a couple of spaces up from us and people around it so I went up for a chat. It was a bunch of Italians, funny guys. At one point one of them asked me if I did anything but drink beer and eat bretzels? It was then that I realized that I’d forgotton to eat all day apart from the slice of pizza after the footy and bratwurst I’d eaten half an hour before I’d been too occupied with chanting and singing and totally forgotton to eat. No wonder my head was drilling me.
I went back to the car and got Ioanna to make me a cheese sandwich, the bread was stale and any other time it would have tasted disgusting. However to me it was fantastic, the only problem was being stale it took me ages to eat and I was impatient and got really bad indigestion.
I finally got to sleep at about 130 and I slept horribly waking up evey 30 minutes with my back aching and my head drilling me, Hristina kept me entertained though, if she wasn’t snoring she was making a variety of other bodily noises. Haha.
Day 57
Sunday 27Sept
1010
We just got back to Eheim. Today was another long one.
We got up at about 920, my thinking being that we could leave at 930. We didn’t end up leaving the car untill after 10, with the radio on we were dancing around the car having a great time, despite this the girls piss farted around doing nothing in particular, a bit of this a bit of that with no direction at all. They were a pain in the ass this morning. The sense of Urgency is totally non-existant.
We first walked down the street to a coffee shop. My head was still absolutely drilling me, but a coffee some yoghurt and a couple of paracetamol’s had that taken care of. We spent the rest of the morning walking around the city, which was nice except the girls had no concept of time what so ever. They spent 30 minutes looking at postcards and crap souveniers. I really wanted to be out of Munich by 11 to be in Salzburg by 1130. We ended up not leaving Munich untill 2, getting into Salzburg at 330, with less then 2 hours of proper sunlight before the sun dropped behind the mountains.
In salzburg we first went and found a café and had coffee and somoe food. I had some sort of roast and a dumpling, I really liked it and it went down a treat. Next we just walked around town. we walked along the river, there was a flea market on. I grabbed a wallet for 10 Euros, it was the same one as one I’d looked at for 30Eu the weekend before hand. I also grabbed a cuff to replace the one that had gone missing during the pub crawl in London.
The drive went ok, but we didn’t pull into Graz untill 930, I’d spent much of the previous 8 hours driving and I was absolutely knackered, it was good fun though, when we could get radio stations the music was crap old songs, but we all knew the words and it was a lot of fun.
I’m staying at Eheim tonight. It’s just easiest so I’m going to sleep in Kiki’s room. I’m pretty sure she’ll be sleeping up in Ioanna’s room, but I don’t really care where she decides to sleep, I’ll be dead for a good 8 hours anyway.
