We left Cape Leveque after a quick visit to the Cygnet bay pearl farm - the oldest pearl farm in Australia - 75 years. Another bumpy ride down the cape Leveque road and on to Derby, home of the Boab tree. We are staying at the Kimberley Entrance Caravan Park. I just had the best shower!! Great clean amenities become quite important on a trip like this - not a necessity but lovely when found!

Jeff and the boys went on a spear-making and spear-fishing guided tour today. It was $99 for the 3 of them for 6 hours with a local, Bundy. They came back with a fish for dinner (Golden Trevally) and lots of great knowledge ie. finding fresh water near the ocean. They all said it was a fantastic tour. I spent the day around the campsite, some much needed time to myself. At dusk we went for a family walk around the rocks on the beach.

We browsed the Broome shops this morning then drove up to Cape Leveque. The 200km road is sealed for the first 10km and the last 100km. The 90km in between is sandy and has been graded often, pushing the sand to the sides, so at times you feel like you are driving in a deep dry river bed. No wonder they close the road when it rains. We had quite a relaxing day, starting with a swim in the lovely pool at Cable Beach caravan park and ending with a drink with Kerrie and Daryl whom we'd met at 80mile beach. This afternoon we went to the Broome visitor centre - Bron was amazingly helpful and helped plan our trip through the Kimberley. We drove all day yesterday and arrived at Eighty mile beach caravan park in time to watch the sunset. I then did 4 loads of washing to remove red dust from everything! This morning we had a slow start. It's mothers day and I got coffee in bed; Jeff made pancakes as he does every Sunday morning.
