Ibiza, where to start hey. A warm, sunny island off the coast of Valencia, we arrived with limited knowledge of the town other than the fact it is a wild party island where you're always on the go and you can forget about any downtime to rest or sleep; and that it was. Our first night we were forced to spend on the west side of the island in San Antonio, due to our original accommodation in Playa d'en Bossa being booked out. Arriving late in the afternoon, our apartment was quite nice with air conditioning, kitchen, multiple bedrooms & a large balcony. However, we soon realised that we were staying in a Contiki-like hotel for u20's English backpacker tours. It felt as if we were on the set of Geordie Shore, with the rowdy Pommy guys & fake girls in the area. A swim in the ocean which had a horrible smell & quite dirty, in addition to the distance from the main nightlife spots all contributed to us leaving San Antonio with a bad taste in our mouth. Fortunately for us though, it was only a 12 hour stay.
The next morning saw us cab it back over to our accommodation at Jet Apartments in Playa d'en Bossa, and it was here that we started to feel that we were living the real Ibiza experience. Our two bedroom apartment overlooking Bora Bora beach club, a stones throw from the ocean and if you were a good long-jumper you could probably reach the pool from our balcony in one leap. Getting accustomed to the full-on lifestyle and heavy music of our new temporary home, we met up with a few visitors from our Contiki group that were coming to spend one night in Ibiza with us. We spent the night pre-drinking on the balcony & dancing down by the pool at the beach club before heading to Space Nightclub to an event featuring Carl Cox. Once midnight stuck, it signalled the 24th birth date of Jack and was about to kick start a big 24-hours of partying.
The next day saw Jack being woken to a hot breakfast in bed & a surprise present from Saz back in Australia; a bottle of Grey Goose, just what Jack wanted to wake up to after a large night. Once he had caught up with messages and birthday wishes from friends and family back home, we shot off to the wharf for a midday departure aboard a boat party cruise. A wonderfully sunny day cruising out to a secluded rock island off the coast of Ibiza with deep, blue, pristine water before docking for lunch and an opportunity for diving or backflipping off the boat to swim through caves and around in this beautiful oasis; could definitely think of worse ways to spend a birthday. The scenery and lifestyle upon the cruise has suddenly got us super excited for the Croatia-sailing experience that we will endure early next month. The return leg of the cruise started to escalate with the open bar getting utilised to much more effect, with the free flowing of beers and sangria increasing the moods and preparing us for the night ahead.
Once back it was a short changeover before getting to the recently opened Ushuaia beach club, for what was to be a night to remember. Seeing two-thirds of the Swedish House Mafia in Axwell & Sebastián Ingrosso, alongside the likes of Alesso, Otto Knows and homegrown boy Tommy Trash, we always knew the music to be played was going to be great, but the show provided was another level to anything we'd see back at Australian music festivals. The open-aired venue featured pools, water fountains, Cirque du Soleil acrobats coming from the stage and the sky, lasers, confetti, steam machines and fireworks, which all contributed to making an incredible show which we agreed was one of the best nights of our live and a great way to see out the end of Jacks memorable 24th birthday.
The final nights of our Ibiza trip saw much more relaxed days by the pool and lazing on Bora Bora beach with night visits to bars, rather than more of the super-clubs. At 50 euro for entry and 17 euro for a vodka, our bank accounts greatly welcomed this decision also. Still very late and loose nights, we woke up the last morning ready to move on with nothing more to give; 5 nights in Ibiza had taken its toll but I think that is a good sign that you have visited a place with no regrets. A promoter approached us during our first day on the beach in Playa d'en Bossa and said that by the end of our stay he will guarantee that "we will both love Ibiza, yet hate Ibiza", and I think that was the perfect quote to summarise this crazy island; the true definition of a love-hate relationship. All in all a very fun few days and we have now ticked that box but happy to be moving on to our next, and final, Spanish destination. The city of soccer, sangria and supposed stealing (pickpocket's) that is Barcelona.
