The Cameron highlands instantly reminded me of Dalat Vietnam. It was cold and wet. Well about 20 degrees which is cold for us now.. The Malaysians build a couple of tiny tiny town up in the mountain passes surrounded by greenery on every side. We of course came here to do one of the treks. We chose to do the mossy Forrest trek which only took about an hour. The tour guide we had was an absolute nutter! Whizzing round in his land rover overtaking where there really wasn't any room. When we got to the trail he told us, right we have to park a little bit way from the entrance.. Just so the ranger doesn't come looking for us.... Oh yeah this tail has been banned so it's a little bit illegal.. But you guys have come all this way to see the Forrest so I take you in anyway.. Yep nutter! The Forrest lived up to its name! It was completely covered in a bright green moss, nothing like what I'd seen before, especially as it rained the entire day before and all I had was my trainers..
After the trek he took us to one of the tea plantations where the entire hill sides were covered in tea trees all about 1.5m high. After, I tried an expensive special Cameron highlands tea... Still prefer Yorkshire tea!
We got dropped off halfway to the hostel and decided to do a proper trek, it took about 2 hours up some pretty steep terrain knackered I was when I got to the end..
Now off to KL to start my volunteering!
