Kya Travels
Today we opted to skip the optional temples that we could stop at, and instead had an epic sleep in! We woke and went back to sleep a few times, then got a call from Ramzy letting us know that lunch would be served at 2pm. So we got up for lunch, which was again delicious, then went up to the top deck for some glorious sunshine (have to get as much of this as we can, before we head back into European winter!). We hung out up there with Sophie and Steve, just watching the scenery go past as we cruised down the Nile. It was very beautiful. At 3 we went down to the bar, for an itinerary meeting, then at 4 we went back to the top deck for some free tea, coffee and biscuits, and some chill out time. It was very nice. After a while, we heard some voices from the side of the boat, and looked over the edge to see some pirates! (Or at least that's what Ramzy called them!) They had a tiny little row boat which they had attached to the cruise ship, and were being pulled along with us! They had a little boat full of things that they were trying to sell, and kept holding out table cloths, towels, clothes and all that type of thing. They were having conversations with us, then told us just to have a look, no pressure, and threw the items in plastic bags all the way up to the top deck of the boat!! One of the towels was very nice, with a big pharaoh head on it, and we were pretty keen to get it, so started bargaining with them. They started at 250 Egyptian Pounds though, which was waaaaay too much, so eventually they threw us up another towel, with the pyramids and camels on them, which they said was smaller and cheaper. We got them down to 60 pounds (~$9) and then Darren got ready to throw the other items back to their boat. They started yelling, telling him not to do it, as it might go in the water, but Ramzy said its ok to throw it back, so Darren put our money into one of the bags and threw them onto the boat! Perfect shot too! I think the pirates were pretty scared! Almost as soon as they'd got the towels back, they started talking to Darren again, trying to get him to buy the first towel that we'd wanted more for 50 pounds! So cheeky! Nikki and Brit wanted a towel though, so instead of them bargaining for a towel, we bought the other one for 50 pounds for them! We approached the lock, where the Nile was dammed off, and at different altitudes either side of the dam, so we went inside the lock, and the water was slowly let out, so we were even with the lower side of the Nile, and were at the level of a whole lot of pirates on the dock. They were all getting desperate for sales, because as soon as the cruise left the dock, that would be it for them, so they started throwing heaps of bags onto the deck, and Nikki started getting angry and chucking them back as hard as she could! She has a lot of power for such a small girl, and we could see how she's apparently such a good hockey player! When we were at the right level, the gates opened, and we waved goodbye to our pirate friends before the boat continued to cruise down the river. That was a bit of fun! I can't believe we bought a towel from a pirate! If that's not a good story, I don't know what is! When the excitement was over we all headed back down to the bar, where we had three rounds of Names, which as it went on, got sillier and sillier, and harder and harder. We kept getting confused between what names were in this game, and what was in the last ones, it was very funny! After the third game it was dinner time, so we went downstairs, where I had the best felafels ever! We had a chat, and the funny waiter came over (still calling Darren Dammit) and showed us another trick. He stuck some toothpicks in a salt shaker then set them on fire, covered them with a wine glass which was sitting on a plate of water, then we watched as the water got sucked into the wine glass! Very cool. I think we have a few extra party tricks up our sleeves now! We had another early start the next morning, so after dinner, we grabbed some water from the bar then headed up to bed. On our way through, everyone was in Nik and Brits room, so we hung out in there for a bit having a look at some photos and souvenirs people had bought, and had a good chat, before heading back to our room and watching a movie (The Power of One) before going to sleep.
