We took the hostel's free bus service at 9am to Playa las Palmas, Tulum's famous beach and also where the Mayan ruins are. As we arrived early it was lovely and quiet, we found a nice spot and relaxed all morning. We agreed this is one of the nicest beaches so far, similar to Tyrona but bigger and without all the hassle you get on Playa Blanca! The water was amazingly turquoise and warm and the sand soft and white. We had a couple of ice cold drinks in one of the bars in the shade of the palm trees, they had swings for seats so we stayed there a while. We then walked about 1km down the beach to get to the ruins which were impressive and the view of the sea and beach below was stunning! There were iguanas and lizards in every patch of shade trying to stay cool and we also saw some bright blue birds. It was really hot so we went round and took pictures fairly quickly as we were desperate to get back in the sea! We stopped for lunch on the way back, neither of us had enough money for a meal after paying the entrance to the ruins so we shared a burger!
After cooling down in the sea we caught the bus back to the hostel at 5pm and enjoyed relaxing in the hammocks after a hard day at the beach. We booked a trip to Chichén Itzá for tomorrow, and then went out for some delicious burritos which weren't hard to find - the road the hostel is on is lined with restaurants. We got given nachos on the house and Nathan found out the hot way that what he thought was pesto was actually chillies! There was a salsa class going on at the back of the restaurant we were at, Nathan was tempted to join in but didn't want to show everyone up. Back at the hostel there was a mini flamenco show which kept us entertained for the evening!
