All is well from the land of the big bang experiment. Nothing scary happened today when it was turned at 9:30am, luckily.
This past weekend was a culture shock. While drinking a beer at an English speaking pub in Geneva, I noticed that the majority of the customers of the pub were considerably younger than me. Most of them looked to be 16 or 17 at the most. The law in Geneva allows for drinking of beer and wine at 16! Smoking is legal then as well. I could not have imagined myself at 16 drinking a beer and smoking a ciggerate at a bar. My friend, Tara, and I decided we didn't like all the young people at the bar. They were far too young to be there! But this is Europe, and that's how it goes, so we will get used to it.
The large amount of smoking in Europe is something I don't think I will ever get used to. I found myself wondering if the lung cancer rate here is considerably higher than the United States? Considering the young age that people begin smoking here. Smoking in the US is usually stereotyped as trashy and unattractive but here everyone smokes, even the glamorous, beautiful people. Once again, I guess it's something I will just have to get used to. Though, I really miss being able to go out to a bar or club and not coming home smelling like an ashtray. It's a small price to pay for the experiance of living in Europe.
