Katie & George Down Under
G'day sheila's
well back in sydney just now and looks like there will be a little reunion as Fi Allan is on her way and Milly should be heading here on friday! so funny that half the vet school is heading down under.
Have been travelling around in the hire car and amazingly returned it in one piece after its little stint off roading. Have been attending vet intervirews and crashing in on relatives. Been great fun.
went whale watching which was fantastic at Port Macquarie and saw humpback whales they even swam under our boat! The video commentary we have is hilarious. Such fantatsic creatures and so huge!
Headed on a 3 hour drive from Wauchope (had another interview) on the most windy wooded road ever which scaled mountains and valleys, beautiful but not a sole for miles untuil we stumbled upon a little garage and cafe! It was in no mans land with skulls decorating the gate posts! when asked how far are you neighbours he replied"we don't have any neighbours", as the only petrol station for miles he was sure to make a killing with his location! literally!
George's relatives the Baileys in Armidale have been fantastic such a gorgeous family and the grand parents too! Had a brilliant time and spent 3 nights there and were even given our own little place to stay which was so cosy and frequently visited by Harry the dog. Caught a game of rugby which must accompany a beer! so much violence and carnage on the pitch! George also spied her future husband with a whip-over and shellsuit/tracksuit get-up on! yummy and little Kate was in a soccer match so we were acting like the competitive parents in cheering her on. We gave Tom a firemans hat on departure and we went to take the children to school on our last day which was fantastic such a cool classrooms!
Went to Armidale market where they were selling cornish pasties! and jewellery from the tin mine in St Just! amazing
Had a lovely time with the Baileys so much fun, and became big kids playing hide and seek, tag and croquet!
I must also say that my years (19 years) of not eating red meat has officially eneded as i've been given steak everywhere i go! and it's delicious. It all started in Clarence town when we were given steak on the BBQ and i just love it since! sorry mum! While Goerge stated on her departure to Australia that she wanted to become veggie possibly even a vegan! and likes to add she loves her steak medium-rare! blood dripping haha
Katie has a job sorted in a cute little town (where everyone knows each other) north of Newcastle about 3 hours north of Sydney! Its fab very rural and laid back but loads to do activity wise.
The practice is young and the couple that own it are only 29 and hilariuos! the first question george and i got as we arrived thropugh the door was"are you girls lesbians as we thought george was a bloke!" bloody hilarious Peter has a very dark sense of humour and we just take the mickey out of him. Had dinner there 2 nights and gate crashed again on the way to Sydney where we had our wires accross as to which night we would be dropping our stuff in. But they had us round for dinner again, gorgeous home grown food.
Peter laughed his head off when george mounted their garden in the dark whilst reversing the car. His wife Jasmin is a sweetie and they have two small children. Its 50:50 small:large so perfect for Katie.
An american/canadian girl starts as well and maybe Milly? depending on how she gets on with all her interviews. On departing Clarence town for Sydney George managed to walk into a CLOSED glass door with an almighty bang! i think the vets are regretting having us to stay! haha
Our last night in Clarence town was amusing, when safely tucked up in bed about to drop off to sleep George decided now was a good time to mention the fact she'd seen a a rather suspicious spider in the hallway! Heading to the bedroom! on further description we thought it could be a redback, George refused to turn the light on as she was scared!
On discussion with George i told her she had only taken one of the three options:
1. find and kill
2. Sweep out of the house into the garden
3. Tell Katie BEFORE she was asleep and the lights were out!
so i had to bounce over to the light in my sleeping bag and look for it. Amazingly it was no where to be seen. No doubt one of us ate it in our sleep! Also Katie was tormented by a mosquito that was trying to suck her brain out via her nose all night and didnt she let George know it!
Its been amazing so far have seen humpback whales which are just magical and even swam under our boat truely amazing. Have seen lots of kangaroos and even an echidna too (George almost reversed backwards ona highway to catch a better look!!!!!!!!!). In the beginning we were desperate to see wild life and were attempting to identify road kill and contemplating taking some snaps for our website for you to see! sick i know!
Thats all for now folks!
