Instead of writing my every day travels, I thought it would be more interesting to share the differences and similarities I noticed in Scotland to the States.
Currency - The first thing I noticed was the beautiful colored paper pounds. Each type of bill had a different size; however, they all shared a picture of Queen Elizabeth II.All British coins had Queen Elizabeth II pictured on them as well.
Education - It was fascinating to find out that the students who attended a public college in Scotland do not have to pay tuition.I wonder what the States would be like if they instituted free public college education?Would after high school education be looked at differently? How many would take advantage of that option?Who would still want to go to a private school?
Health Care - Like many European countries, Scotland has free Health Care. The medication is reasonably priced.Doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals are paid well.Private health centers are looked down on and are expensive to use.Unlike the States, people are put on waiting lists for all their appointments.
Entertainment - When it comes to humor, Scots are know for their "dark humor" (laugh at the ugly realities of the world); whereas the States is know for slapstick/stupid humor.
There were several things that are similar between the States and Scotland. For instance, both countries have problems with underage drinking, young single moms, and illegal drugs.
