Krys & Toni's World Adventure
Hi everyone!
Firstly, to my brother, I dont care if the journal entries are too long for your liking - we are aware we may be boring people at times but as family and friends you are morally obliged to keep up with what we're doing!
We've recently left Luang Prabang where we celbrated their New Year. It was so friendlty and fun and people were really relaxed. Basically for 3-4 days the whole town stops working and throws water at anyone close to them. After this comes flour, paint and oil/tar, so you have to wear stuff you dont like. It's supposed to be cleansing but we didnt end up very clean (as shown on photos). People ride around in big pick up trucks all dsay with hoses, buckets of water and water pistols with music blaring out and you get soaked every few steps- brilliant. No one escapes, and if you're on a motorbike you still get buckets of water thrown over you which seems a bit dangerous to me!
They also have a traditional parade complete with all local monks, traditional costume and more water throwing. Some of the novice monks here are so young, 9 or 10 years old. You wonder if they are aware of the commitment they've made, although we're both still quite ignorant when it comes to Buddhism to be honest and only know the basics. We were still travelling with the people we met earlier, as well as 4 other girls me and Krys met a month ago and bumped into again here so its been great.
There are also also some cool waterfalls nearby that we went to with loads of pools falling into each other. I got scared and cried when Krys went too near the edge of the waterfall, although he assures me it was safe!
We left Luang Prabang a few days ago for the long journey into Northern Thailand where we are now. Took three days, 2 on a boat and one on a bus but we've finally got here.
Hope you all had a good easter, I was a bit gutted not to have a chocolate egg for the first time ever!
Lots of love
Toni and Krys x
