So here we are in the deep south, and those expletives we were waiting for were launched on the unsuspecting population of Queenstown - now we came this way last year on the road trip with the girls and I fell in love with the place, and found a new friend in a hobbit so to speak!
It was unbelievable cold a nice 0 degrees when I stepped off the plane, staying at lord cant even remember the name of the backpackers but lets just say it was interesting - dorm room of 8 people and the place was totalled, most of them had been there for months looking for work etc so really not a good sign to start with but most were really friendly - met a few Spaniards Eddie, Marko and Alex from Ibiza who were there for the winter season and a few girls from the Cheq Republic (one didnt speak any English) looked at share accom with them but decided against cause not enough work around - it was awesome time for skiing etc and soo soo many people around. Was in Town for the festival really couldnt do alot on it which was a shame and really the only reason I came to NZ but thems the breaks sometimes did some more exploring - thought I spotted a hobbit but on closer inspection was mistaken and generally tried to keep warm I will say this when staying at the top of a mountain (ladies the other side of the gondola where we stayed last time) do not attempt to walk it carrying your backpack in 0 degrees I swear I thought I was going into cardiac arrest, hot body/cold air = lungs about to explode!!! Oh and was conned by the locals to try fish chips and mushy peas I have since been told that this isnt really a local delicassy they were just taking the piss!! My advice do not try it - have been told deep fried moro bar (like mars bar is good) but after the near heart attack on the mountain thought I may need those arteries to stay unblocked for now anyway!
