Kristine and I have just spent our last night in Cape Town and we're off for on 2 month trip up to Nairobi. We're expecting a pretty fantastic trip, and from what we're hearing, we won't be disappointed :)
We haven't made an entry; in the blog in the last few days... but we've been pretty busy. Sunday was a nice, relaxing day. We were finally able to sleep in instead of waking up for 5, we celebrated this by sleeping until 7 :P. After a late breakfast and lying by the pool we walked up to the waterfront and took a boat out to Robben Island, where the former President of South Africa (Nelson Mandela) had spent 18 of his 25 years in prison. The tour was really structured, and there wasn't much time to do any exploring on our own. For the first half we were driven around the island and had the important building pointed out to us. The second half of the tour was conducted by a fomer inmate, we were pretty lucky as our guide was very calm in retelling the stories of life in the prison. We could hear the other guides exclaming them loudly from across the prison.
Monday we moved from our hotel which is actually in Sea Point, not Green Point as we first thought, to a hostel in the Downtown area for a nice change of scenery. We spent the rest of the day walking through Downtown, looking at shops and restaurants and the kiosks set up in Green Market Square... heh, we bought a belt to replace mine, which was practically destroyed :P We had found an Indian restaurant we wanted to try, but because it was Monday... wasn't open :(
Yesterday, we did the Table Mountain hike... which was fanstatic. But instead of starting from the bottom of the route "Plateklipp Gorge" I think it was called, we walked all the way up from Downtown :P The whole trip to the top was about 4 hours and worth every minute :):) The view at the top was amazing. Oh, and last night we celebrated our last night in Cape Town at that Indian restaurant MMMmmmm... with a bottle of local red wine :)
