Hey,
Well we got the overnight sleeper bus down to Pakse there was massive storms on the way so got to see some impressive lightning then got sangethew down to Ban Naksang, was funny as was like 30 of us in the back of a pick up with seats and people eating bettle kebabs and stuff! then got boat to Don Det, we went right to the south so not so touristy! the first day we were there we didnt really do anything just chilled out on balcony then second day we walked across the bridge to Don Khon and went to a waterfall there which was really nice!! 4000 islands were so pretty was lovely although only electric for a couple of hours a night! Then got the boat back and got a VIP bus to Pakse then spent a couple of hours in Pakse as had to wait for sleeper bus back! then next day when got to vientiene we went to the waterpark was quite fun but quite scary as slides went really fast as went down on a mat and went down head-first (strange but that was the only way they would let you go down! ian was in his element with all the slides etc!!
Then next day got bus to Vang Vieng that afternoon just had a walk around!! next day didnt really do anything as ian wanted to watch australian grand prix so waited for it to come on TV but in the end it didnt!! next day we went to 4 caves! were reallky impressive big stalactities etc and one of the caves you had to go in in a tube and pull yourself in using overhead ropes!! water was frezzing though! then walked to an Hmong village, which is a hill tribe. then got picked up and taken bit further down the river and kayaked back to Vang Vieng. stopped at one of the river side bars which had a rope swing and slide but we didnt do either but guide did both!! had a really good day!
The next day we decided to go tubing! which is where you go down the river in the inner part of a tractor tyre! was interesting first bit was really good stopped at one bar and it rained while we was there but ok when we left then stopped at another and wind blew up and rain and was cold had lunch there and ended up sitting in front of a fire!! then had to get back in so could get back!! was freezing and still had long way to go! also loads of rocks just under water so cant see them but scrape your bum on them! and ians tyre got a puncture! but finally got to end but had to get out in a reaqlly fast flowing bit but quite shallow! ian managed to get out but i couldnt he managed to grab my hand but couldnt pull me back so had to let go!! then his flip flop came off so i was still in tube so tried to get it!! and as i reached for it i fell out of the tube - got his flip flop but lost the tube and both my flip flops!! ian ran down the side and jumped in and got the tube and i got to 1 flip flop but couldnt reach the other so shouted to ian to get it but he didnt hear and by the time i realised he hadnt got it was too late! so i lost 1 flip flop! but got both tyres back which was good as expensive if u lost them!! but i had to buy new flip flops on way back!! was stupid rest of river really slow but have to get out on a fast bit!! would have got out before but didnt see it coming!! so we survived but very cold and my flip flop didnt!
Then got minibus to Luang Prabang was beautiful but scary at times as lots of sheer drops! then yesterday just had walk about and sent off for vietnam visas then today went to royal palace museum, wat xieng thong - a beautiful pagoda and phu si which is a temple right at the top of a hill so good view across luang prabang and out to the mountains! rained very heavy this morning but turned into a nice afternoon!!
Tomorrow we are driving to a village then kayaking down the Nam Ou river to Pak Ou caves and then kayaking down the mekong to a village where they make lao whisky and then drive back to Luang Prabang! should be about 4 hours kayaking! hopefully will be fun and not that difficult as i put paddle in on wrong side sometimes!! i forget!! lol!
Take care - let me know how u all are!! xx
