To continue where we left off, Saturday morning at 6am Kristi and Melissa (Dana was feeling sick so she stayed at home to rest) headed to the tourist center to meet the tour guide for the day. They met their fellow travelers and all headed on a 2 and a half hour busride to the West coast of Ireland. The first stop on the tour was a small family farm owned by the people who ran the tour. They got a walking tour into the mountains behind the farm (the mountain was privately owned by the family) and even had to lie down on the grass pretending to be cows! It was a bit windy but they were used to the cold at this point. Kristi got to feed a baby lamb and Melissa fed a calf, they were treating the bottled milk like they were Irishmen chugging Guinness. Afterward they headed to the famous Cliffs of Moher, the largest natural tourist attraction in Ireland. It was breathtaking to see them in person and walk along the edge! The tour then proceeded to Galway city where we sat wiith the Canadians on our trip in a small pub drinking Guinness and Irish cider and watching a rugby match (which none of us understand). After a two and a half hour bus ride home Melissa and Kristi went out for one last night in Ireland with Sean, a Canadian from the tour.
Sunday morning we checked out and headed to the train station to take a train to Rosslare on the Southern coast of Ireland. We boarded our ferry (more like a mini-cruise ship) to the sound of a live violinist - it almost felt like we were on the Titanic! Should we panic? We would have if we had known the extent of rocking we were able to feel for the next few hours. Not gonna lie it was pretty bad. Luckily there was a movie theatre on board and we were able to take our minds off the constant rocking by watching Black Swan. After that we headed to our luxurious cabin, more like a replica of Harry Potter's closet under the stairs. Melissa popped a few sleeping pills and was out, and yes, it was only 8 pm. We were all able to sleep pretty well and the beds were more comfortable than the hostel in Dublin.
Monday morning we arrived in France and learned what it felt like to be "fresh off the boat." We also had no idea what to do or how to figure out where to go. Great start to France. We ended up just figuring out how to get to the train station by looking at a map on the wall and made it there with plenty of time to spare. The train ride was spent napping or reading and was a nice ride through the French countryside. Once we arrived in Paris we had no idea how to get to our hostel or where it even was. Luckily we got a map from a hotel and figured out where it was. We decided it would be a great idea to walk there so we spent the next hour and fifteen minutes doing just that. Might I add that it is significantly warmer here than Ireland and we were all carrying about 35 pound bags, similar to mules. Quite the adventure. The hostel here is pretty nice, we have our own 3-person room!!! fancy!
Excited to see Paris tomorrow and the next few days!
p.s We won't be able to upload any pictures until we get home, these darn European computers without usb drives...
