This morning we went to the British Museum. We spent all day there an still barely saw a fraction of what was there. Still, I saw the Rosetta Stone and one of only two Easter Island heads that is off the island. If I thought the 1000 year old White Tower in London was old, it's nothing compared to the 4-5000 year old artifacts in that museum. One of my favorite parts was that they had several Olympic gold medals that will be given out in about a month when the games start. Probably the closest I'll ever get to an Olympic gold medal.
Then we hopped a train to Salisbury, the closest town to Stonehenge. Normally there is a fence around the rocks and you can't get close to them. But they do open the site up on the summer solstice, which happens to be today. We had no idea what to expect. Would it be a bunch of people doing weird pagan rituals? Or maybe a bunch of history buffs trying to solve the mystery of that big pile of rocks? Or maybe just a bunch of tourists like us? Turns out its England's biggest outdoor party. Most people were either stoners or college kids yay brought a ton of beer. There were a few of all the types we expected to see, but most people seemed there to party. The goal is to stay out all night until the sunrise at 4:30 am. We made it until about 1, then it started pouring and we couldn't figure out how we'd manage to entertain ourselves until sunrise. So we left. Still it was a totally unique and unforgettable experience.
