I think I am finally acclimating to my new time zone. It is early morning and I am awake before anyone else with an hour to sip my coffee and study a little Hebrew, write in my journals and pore through the Lonely Planet. I wish I would have applied myself better before the trip to learn some more Hebrew! Most of the younger generation has learned enough English in school so there is no communication problem with them but Masha, our gracious hostess speaks very haltingly and her husband, Shurik speaks primarily Russian (and Lithuanian). Shurik and I discovered the first night that we have something in common. He is a charming and funny little guy who maintains his vigor with a morning smoothie of vegetable juices. He was delighted to discover that I share his passion and he whipped up a lovely carrot and beet concoction in his juicer for me yesterday.
Today it's off to Jerusalem. I am excited to wander around the old city so I want to get busy and read the guidebook so I am prepared.
