Well it's been another couple great days to finish off my stay in Sydney.
Sunday, I took it pretty easy to nurse my Mardi Gras hangover. I did laundry in the morning and then took the afternoon to explore Darling Harbour. There are some awesome views of the harbour and the cityscape from there (see photo albums). In the afternoon I grabbed a beer and caught up on my travel journal then met some friends for dinner at a pretty awesome Chinese restaurant in the Haymarket Area.
Monday was for the beach! I headed out to Bondi fairly early to make the most of it. It's awesome being able to take public transit to such an amazing beach!
I spent the morning chilling out and had a friend meet me there. I wasn't there all that long but I could feel how hot the sun really was. It's like a different kind of heat that said - I'm burning you no matter how hard you try you silly super white Canadian - I reapplied the sunscreen often, but still came away with weird burns on the tops of my feet and the bottom side of my arms.
Near the end I took a little hike up the cliff walk. I got to pass the Bondi Icebreakers club which is iconic. I really wish I had an extra day to go for a swim workout in the pool overlooking the beach and ocean - it's so cool! I only walked to the first point because I was short on time, but it still gave me some pretty surreal views of the beaches and towns on either side.
Afterwards I headed back downtown to meet up with Laura and Dan for a little Western reunion dinner. Had a great time catching up and chatting about life in Oz - among other things.
Tuesday was my last day and unfortunately was mostly a work day. I met with Laura again early on to skype with the team back in London. After that I caught up with the million emails I was behind on. Early afternoon I dedicated to packing up my stuff and getting ready for tomorrow's flight.
My final hurrah was actually a really nice visit with Laura, a prof and the grad students from UTS. We got together for a beer and chatted about the different projects we were working on as well as how the program's worked at different schools. It was super relaxed but also really good. Some great conversations and a great way to finish off my stay.
Now it's time for the next leg of the journey. It's off to Melbourne where I am looking forward to settling in for a bit and not living out of a backpack.
Keep it touch, watch for updates, and as always: keep it weird.
