I'm about to leave for the airport with my entourage! By entourage, I mean my mom and her friend. This will be my first trip Paris, and only my second trip to Europe. My mom and her friend, Marianne, were in Paris together 40 years ago, so it's pretty cool that they get to go together again. They are on the same flight as me and staying with me for about a week. It will be nice to have them with me so I'll have someone to give confused looks to when the ________ (fill in the blank: cab driver, waiter, police officer) says something I can't understand. Je ne parle pas Francais.
I do know "un peu" French...I've been listening to "Learn French in Your Car" during my commutes. Who would've thought that it would have been more valuable for me to take French in high school instead of Spanish? I'm looking forward to when I get to France; I'll let myself listen to music on my iPod instead of French phrases for the first time in months. I admit I've also been missing Eric and Kathy in the morning.
It's been a bit of an adventure figuring out logistics. I am renting an apartment rather than staying in a hotel, so I had to find one sight unseen (other than pictures on the internet). It looks amazing and actually has two bedrooms. It seems a little too good to true b/c the rest of the apartments I found in the same price range were studios, but I'm optimistic the it actually exists and there won't be red lights hanging outside nearby establishments.
Fingers crossed that there are no hangups at O'Hare. I'm always the random person that they select in security (really? what do I look like... maybe like I'd hold hostage the Paris Gap?). So, as long as I don't end up on the no fly list, you'll be hearing from me next from Paris!
