Stef's Sarah's, and Lauren's European Adventure!
Ciao from Rome!
Sorry it's been a while, computer access for long periods of time at this hostel has been difficult. Rome is very cool! We have seen all the sights. Our first day, we walked through Piazza Navona and went to the Pantheon. We saw the Trevi Fountain at night (all lit up!) and sat on the Spanish Steps. The next day we went to the Colosseum and walked through the ruins of the Roman Forum. It's so amazing that those structures are all so old and still exist! Yesterday we went to Vatican City. After waiting for 2 hours in the blistering hot sun, we finally got in to see the museums and the Sistine Chapel. The Chapel is amazing! The artwork is incredible! Crazy to think that Michelangelo layed right there for so many years painting that crazy ceiling. I even managed to take a picture of The Last Judgment before i realized that you weren't allowed to take pictures in there. oops. :) St. Peter's Basilica is amazing! It's so crazy, after having been all over Europe seeing so many different churches, seeing THE church of churches. The size and opulence of it are breathtaking! We spent about an hour in there just looking at all of the sculptures and tombs and chapels. I took lots of pictures because the way the sun was setting, the rays of light were coming right into the windows of Michelangelo's dome, and were falling right onto the Baldacchino (where the pope says mass). It was so beautiful. We've been eating LOTS of pizza and pasta and are very excited to go to a new country. We leave tonight on a night train (and i am NOT looking forward to the bed) for Nice. It's like we're taking a vacation! After running around and doing so much it will be so nice to just sit on the beach in the French Riviera and not have to see or do anything! I hope everything is well at home and i miss all of you so much! Even though i'm on an amazing trip, i'm still homesick for the people i love!
