Stef's Sarah's, and Lauren's European Adventure!
Our last day in Munich! We took a day trip a couple hours outside of the city to Fussen to see the Neuschwanstein Castle. It's the castle in this picture! I didn't take this exact one but got one exactly like it from a bridge that we hiked up to! The castle is GORGEOUS!!! It's as magical as it looks in the picture and so much more when you're actually there. It's the castle that served as the inspiration for Disney's Cinderella castle and was also the castle in the movie Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (yay!). It's located up in the Alps, so we had to take a bus up to it (i wanted to walk but sarah and lauren weren't having it, so we compromised and they said we could walk on the way down...) Once you get off the bus, you still have to walk a ways up the mountain, but the scenery was absolutely magnificant. The fresh air and towering trees were such a nice change from the congested city... I was in heaven! We took a tour inside the castle and it was just as beautiful inside. The views out the windows were so amazing!! Don't worry, I took almost an entire memory stick of pictures!!! We hiked the way down and stopped at a bench by a waterfall to eat some fruit, and we filled up our water bottles from fountains that pour out water straight from the Alps. It was a really great day! When we got back into the city, we went over to the Olympic stadium...we didn't do a tour because we had spent all our money for the day getting to the castle, but we walked around the complex and saw a memorial dedicated to the Israeli athletes who were killed. Now it's about 9:30 PM and we are just passing the time waiting for our 11:40 night train (7 hours) to Venice. We got a 4 person couchette (the little room with the pulldown beds) and we're hoping that the three of us will have it to ourselves... alright, well next time you hear from us, we will be in Italy!!!
auf Wiederschauen!!!
