Stef's Sarah's, and Lauren's European Adventure!
Hi again!
Today, our last day in Prague, we went to see the Old Jewish Quarter called Josefov. The Synagogues were gorgeous and gave us a glimpse into what Jewish life in Prague was like. There were many memorials to those who perished during WW2. The Spanish Synagogue was absolutely spectacular with its high vaulted ceilings and large columns. The Pinkas Synagogue, after the war, was turned into a memorial to the Jews of Bohemia and Moravia murdered by the Nazis. Inscribed on the walls were the names of the Jewish victims, it was such an amazing sight. All the walls were just covered with names and information. I even found an Arthur Altmann. Maybe there's a relation? We also walked through the Old Jewish Cemetary and saw the hundreds of tombstones all crowded and falling over onto each other. The cemetary contains 12,000 tombstones, but there are even thousands more actually buried there because of the lack of space. We also saw the Klausen Synagogue, which contained an exhibit of children's drawings and paintings while they were contained in camps and ghettos, and it was difficult to not be emotionally affected by it. After seeing The Old-New Synagogue, we headed back to the hostel, and as I type this Lauren and Sarah are doing laundry! We are resting up then grabbing dinner and getting ready to leave Prague in the morning to head on out to Munich!!
