Mandy, I can only share the sentiments of your friend regarding the best experience of your life (to date). Having traveled the world there is nothing better than getting a perspective other than the one we have here. The real appreciation that I have gotten is how fortunate we have it here and perhaps how much we take it for granted at times.
I had asked you that as a part of the culture you attend some of the bicycle races. Spanish riders have taken the last two Tour de France events. Sastre last year and Contador the year before. Here is a Wiki site that shows the UCI schedule of the Europe Tour http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008-2009_UCI_Europe_Tour. These are equal to AAA major league baseball events and riders like Contador and Sastre likely got their starts in these events. So take in one or two in as a part of the culture for me. I don't think you will regret it.
