Ok, so been in Melbourne almost a week now and I can say that I have been nicely surprised by the city. My first impression of Melbourne was one huge and busy centre resembling somewhere like London that you see often, far from that!

St Kilda's was the first nice surprise, I still can't get over living near the sea!! The penguins there also surprised me, didn't expect to see much wildlife around the city, but once again I was mistaken.

The Royal Botanical Gardens (see photos already up) has been quite a nice experience too. The flora there was very impressive and had the chance to see some animals, mainly birds but also a possum who was very sweet. Its hard to believe that this park is right next to the CBD (Central Business District)!! The park is quite close to another which hosts the Melbourne Grand Prix races, so on my to-do list.

The city has plenty to offer. The shopping here seems amazing, I have been staying out of shops to save my bank balance. The Melbourne Central shopping mall is very interesting (see photos already up) with a 'nature' area where you can see birds flying too. There is a small chinatown, a greek precinct and Lygon street, full of italian restaurants and shopse. I still need to go tourist info to try and find a nice place serving aussie food.

The arts in Melbourne is pretty huge, the architecture is contemporary and many museums, galleries, theatres and arty festivals are located in Melbourne. At the moment there is a Tim Burton exhibition in the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) which is on my to-do list, as well as aboriginal galleries. In Melbourne there is also the iMax theatre, with the 3rd largest screen in the world which also does cinema screenings, I'm going to try and watch a 3D film to see what it's like! Will keep you updated.

On tuesday my housemate Brendan should be taking me to Healesville Sanctuary to see aussie wildlife, about 1hr30 drive from where we are staying. I am pretty impatient to see the koalas and kangaroos I've heard so much about! Also on my list is Philip Island, about 1hr30 drive also, another wildlife encounter which sounds very exciting!

I'm beginning to really love Melbourne and I can tell already that it will be hard to leave it.

Bon, ça fait presque une semaine que je suis à Melbourne et je peux dire que j'étais agréablement surprise par la ville. Ma première impression de Melbourne, c'était un centre très grand et animé, un peu comme Londres comme on voit souvent, et bien loin de cela!

St Kilda était la première agréable surprise, je n'arrive toujours pas à croire que j'habite près de la mer!! Les pingouins m'ont aussi surpris, je ne m'attendais pas du tout à voir autant de faune autour de la cité!

Le Jardin Royal Botanique (voire photos déjà publiées) était aussi une bonne expérience. La flore était très impressionnante et j'ai eu la chance de voir des animaux, la plupart des oiseaux mais aussi un opossum qui était très mignon. C'est dur à croire que le parc était juste à côté du centre!! Le parc est près d'un autre qui accueille le Grand Prix de Melbourne, sur ma liste de choses a voir.

La cité a plein à offrir. Le shopping ici semble être génial, je ne me suis pas encore aventurée dans les magasins afin de sauvegarder mon argent. Le centre commercial, Melbourne Central, est très intéressant (voir photos) avec un coin 'nature' où l'on peut voir de beaux oiseaux! Il y a un Chinatown, un coin grec et la rue Lygon, remplie de restaurants et magasins italiens. Je dois encore aller au centre touristique afin de trouver un bon petit resto australien.

Les arts à Melbourne c'est plutôt énorme, l'architecture est contemporaine et beaucoup de musées, de galeries, théâtres et festivals artistiques sont localisés à Melbourne. En ce moment il y a une exposition de Tim Burton dans le centre Australien de film (ACMI) qui est sur ma liste de choses à faire, ainsi que des galeries aborigènes. À Melbourne il y a aussi le théâtre iMax, le troisième plus grand écran du monde qui fait cinéma, je vais essayer d'aller voir un filme en 3D afin de voir ce que ça donne! Je vous dirais.

Mardi mon colocataire Brendan devrait m'emmener au sanctuaire de Healesville afin de voir les animaux australiens, à un peu près 1hr30 de route de chez nous. Je suis très impatiente de voir les koalas et kangourous dont j'ai entendu tant parler! Aussi sur ma liste: l'île de Philip, aussi 1hr30 de route, une autre rencontre avec la nature qui semble très excitant!

Je commence à vraiment aimer Melbourne et je peux dire déjà que j'aurai du mal à partir.
