Kevin, Keith, Tom, and Ryans Voyage
We got into Dubai around 3 in the morning and Ryan got in at about 830. It was great to have Ryan back with us to spice things up. Dubai is like no city any of us has ever been too. There are buildings going up everywhere. People driving Range Rovers and Ferraris. Only 18% of the people in Dubai are from Dubai but from our observations they are doing very well. The city is very international. They ship in hundeds of thousands of workers from India and Pakistan to take care of all the construction workers needed. The work 12 hour shifts day and night all year long. The Mall of the Emirates turned out to be one of our favorite spots. Not because of the shopping but becuase of the indorr ski slopes. The Ski Dubai complex had 2 slopes, a freestyle course, and a luge too. They equipped you with full ski gear, and a lift ticket for two hours. We were in the middle of the desert, skiing on artificial snow. Ryan and Kevin tried snowboarding at first, but after one run down if you can even call it that they decided skiis were a better choice. It was fun but freezing after spending the rest of the day in boiling heat. The ocean was so warm it felt like a hot tub. On one of the days it was 86 degrees, but could have gotten warmer in the afternoon. There are no waves and the water in so salty you can only take it for a short while. Achohol is illegal in Dubai according to their Sharia Law, but he hotels and nightclubs were able to serve it. We met people from China, Russia, Ukraine, America, and just about any place you can think of during our night adventures. On one of the mornings we did a desert 4x4. It started out with them picking us up in a land cruiser and taking us for about a half hour ride to the desert follwed by a long ride out to their base camp. The driver we had was half nuts, and took us up and down sand dunes, sideways down sand dunes, and at one point got the car to 100 on a straight-away. He was driving so wild that we had to pull over at one point to let Keith try and puke. We then did a camel ride and rode ATVs through the sand dunes which was a blast. By the time we ended up sandboarding around 1030 it was 110 degrees and the heat was unbearable, but worth the trip. The city still needs alot of work, but it was a unique experice to see such a place in the middle of the desert. We ried to get into the famous 7 star hotel but you needed reservations just to get on the property and they were booked for weeks..
WE updated SA and Botswana so check those entries out too, Greece is soon to come
