We woke around 6:00 am this morning to begin a very long day of traveling via foot, train, ferry, car and bus. After the 2 hour ferry ride to cross the Irish Sea, we arrived at the Fishguard port in Wales to begin our short 2-day journey through the U.K. At the port we had to wait about 3 hours for the next train and then learned that we could only pay in cash (British Pounds) for the train ticket. We only had Euros in our wallet. Hearing our dilemma, a nice couple fixed our problem and graciously offered us a ride to the ATM down the road!
On the 4-hour train ride from Fishguard to Cardiff, we were delayed due to a disturbed person threatening to commit suicide by jumping off the bridge that was up ahead. Soon our train ride was terminated and we all had to exit and were directed to coach buses that would transport us to Cardiff. Once we were dropped off at the Cardiff train station, Steph and I were waiting for the train on Platform 2 that would take us to Bath, our final destination for the day. However, we were unaware that the Platform number changed at the last minute, which I realized just as I saw our train pull away from Platform 1! Luckily another train arrived in an hour so we did not have to wait too long...
While in New Zealand five years ago, Steph and I met and traveled with "Tall Andy" and "Short Andy", who we nicknamed due to their drastic height difference. Steph and I planned to travel through the U.K. simply to reunite with our old friends. We spent one evening in Bath to see Tall Andy. We reminisced all night about our fun times bungee jumping and skydiving and caught each other up on what has transpired since we last saw each other. It was so great to see him!
