Jordan. The second to last country of the trip. We took an early morning bus from Nazareth to Amman, the capital of Jordan, with the only excitement being the crossing of the border from Israel into Jordan. First, the bus was held up at the Israeli border while they examined the undercarriage of the bus with a mirror. We then had to depart the bus for passport security, where we learned we had to pay a departure tax. Luckily I had 200 shekels left, enough to cover the tax for myself and Steph, who had spent all of her shekels in Nazareth, and I then changed the remaining shekels into Jordanian dinars. We got back on the bus and pulled forward to the Jordanian border control where we learned we had to buy a visa. Steph had no cash and I had 4 shekels, 6 dinars, and $20. I converted my shekels and dollars and luckily it was enough to buy two visas. After we went through passport control and had our bags searched, we finally boarded the bus and headed to Amman.
The landscape changed immediately after crossed into Jordan. More desert-like, poorer, and even reminded us a bit of Kenya. After we arrived in Amman, we took a taxi into downtown and found our hotel where we spent the evening eager for the next day in Petra.
