Okay so this is a little late, but here's my Croatia trip...
We got to Dubrovnik on July 7th and I had a SAS trip to the city walls, but not until the afternoon. It took an hour or so to clear customs, then a few of us decided to explore the city around the port. Dubrovnik is divided into the old city and the new city, which is where the port was. We looked in a few stores, but mostly just wandered around. I ended up going back to the ship for lunch, because I had to meet the group for my trip. There was a huge group of us, so we took a few buses down the coast towards the old city. Our tour guide showed us around the city within the walls where there are a ton of shops and restaurants. We climbed to the top of the walls, and despite it being more than 90*, the view was amazing. I actually lost my tour guide, so we finished walking all the way around the walls, and then found some amazing Snickers gelato. The old city was really nice with cobble stone streets and random musicians and performances. When I got back, I met up with Nicole, Jess, Kate, and Danielle, and we decided to get some dinner before we went out so we found this really amazing pizzeria in the old city. Since it was still only 10 or so we bought a bottle of wine and some drinks and headed to the beach. It was really cool to just relax and look out at the water. However, little did we realize that the bottle of wine had a cork, so it took some MacGyver skills to open it. We then met up with everyone else at the East West club on the beach, which was really fun. Because the buses stop running at midnight, getting home was interesting. There were probably 9 of us who left together, so we figured it couldn't be that far, so we'd start walking back to the ship. Little did we realize, it's a lot further than we had thought, so Kevin tried to hail a cab, but the car that stopped was a kid in a station wagon. The kid said that he was headed that way anyway, so he'd take them back. It may have been late, but hitchhiking wasn't my first choice, so the rest of us finally found a cab to take us back. I definitely didn't sleep that night; we had a sleepover in my room, which we have officially re-named "The Quad" because it's always Julia, Gabe, Nicole and I hanging out in there.
The second day, we slept in a bit and decided to head towards the beach. Nicole and I spent most of the day relaxing (and napping) on the beach. The water was beautiful and clear, you could see all the way to the bottom. However, the beach wasn't sand; it was small pebbles which hurt to walk on. For lunch we went back into the old city and got some delicious meal that had bread and veggies and sausage. That night we went out with a big group to an Irish pub then to Fuego, a Latin club. It was a good time, we met a couple of people from England, but other than that it was all SASers.
The third day we went back to the beach for a little more R&R. We took it pretty easy all day and only went out with a few people. We headed to the Irish pub again, then after went to the Sky Bar across town. It was a pretty low key night, and we just all hung out talking which was a nice change from going out to clubs. The fourth day we were pretty lazy and hung around the port area. We went to an internet café to upload pictures and check our email. There was also a grocery store close to our ship, so we went to pick up some snacks (and more Nutella, since I'll officially addicted).
Croatia was really beautiful, and I wish I had the chance to get to Split and the Dalmatian Coast, but after traveling nonstop for the last three weeks, it was nice to take it easy. I'll definitely be back, the atmosphere was very relaxed and all the people here were very friendly…plus I love their money, the Kuna (or Hakuna Matata, as Nicole would call it).
Peace & Love
