Today we had our trip out to Mana Island, pick up was at 7.15am, hopped on a coach to get to Port Denarau and were there in no time. From there we caught our bright yellow catamaran out to sea, the Yasawa Flyer. Nail a seat right at the front of the sun deck. Boom. Slapping on the factor 50, naturally. We were begging the boat to get moving as the heat was so intense. Once we're moving the breeze makes the conditions more pleasent. Passed by South Sea Island, Bounty and Treasure Island where people are getting on and off. When we arrive on Mana we are given a quick tour by our minder for the day and then we head out on our "Subsea Adventure". Rhona and I actually nipped to the toilet and thought they would wait...but they didn't. We missed the boat. Literally. Thought we were going to just have to lose out but we were dramatically speed boated out to join the others. They were all staring like we were special. Felt pretty special. Really we had just decided to pee. They needn't know that though. Got onto the glass bottomed boat and toured around the coral. Seen some pretty decent looking fish. Massive guys, teeny wee guys, all kinds of colours. Seen some pretty big schools, a few crazy looking jellyfish and some electric blue starfish. No good pics of this as they just wouldn't work out. Was just blur. Apologies. Enjoyed that for an hour or so and then had a big buffet spread lunch. Watermelon soup.
Collected some snorkling gear and hit the south beach. There was lots of seaweed and reeds close into the beach which was much easier to handle with the flippers on (mentally, but not physically, hard to walk). Seen lots of cool stuff, went right out to where the turquoise water surrounds you..bit terrified of sharks/jellyfish but persevered. When we were heading back into the beach Rhona seen a sea snake. Eeeek. Glad to have avoided that one. Venomous beasts. Lay on the beach for a bit but it was just soooo hot, we decided to lie in the water. Much more comfortable. The Island has even less breeze than the mainland, it's stiffling. Back on our boat about 5pm, the ride back was incredible. The sun was setting, got some Fiji Gold beers in and just watch the light disappear in behind the islands as we rode on into the distance. Rhona and I were both very happy on that journey. Some of the most beautiful sights. Got back to the hostel pretty late. Had some dinner, done some laundry, packed up all our rubbish and prepped for our early start to catch our flight to New Zealand. Had the dorm to ourselves so slept real good.
