Hello! The last 10 days or so have been great! We left Rio on October 3 and flew to Campo Grande for our transfer to the Pantanal. Things started off a bit rusty, our airport transfer driver forgot to pick us up and we had to wait at the airport for an hour and a half before he arrived. When he finally arrived, we hopped in the car and there was a person in the car with Tourettes, which made for a very interesting car trip... We then arrived to our hotel under the advice of 'your room is very basic.' Basic is one way of explaining it. The walls were COVERED in mould! The next day we drove out to the Pantanal. We had a great couple of days with some new found Aussie friends, Gina and Rex. We spent most of our time on the water - searching for caimans (Brazilian crocs), Jaguars, otters, plenty of ginormous storks (practically as tall as Claire) and piranha fishing! We were even lucky enough to see a Jaguar which we are told is very rare. From there we travelled to Bonito which is a well kept Brazilian secret, home to numerous isolated springs of the clearest water in the world. We snorkeled down the river and swam with plenty of fish and swam in the local natural pools. We also jumped the fence into a farm and followed a giant ant eater around! Possibly one of the most magnificent places in the world and made all the better by meeting two great Dutch friends, Rianne and Deiderik. From there we caught the bus to Iguazu Falls. We learnt that the only thing worse than stopovers in airports are stop overs in bus stations :-( Our bus was delayed for over three hours. Instead of being picked up at around 9.15pm, we had to wait until 12.45am in a pretty small station. We finally arrived to the Iguazu falls on the brazilian side, with a total traveling time of almost 24hrs! Next day we went across to the Argentinian side of the falls. It was Fabulous! We took a speed boat ride into some of the heavier sections of the falls. It was amazing! We are very excited to be in Argentina and are looking forward to spending the next four or so weeks here. Kevin is very excited about the Argentinian steaks and wine, and I am looking forward to the glaciers and the penguins (and hopefully there are fewer hysterical transvestites out in the wilderness)!
