Well guys and gals I made it to Bangkok, a city which I wouldn't have expected to end up anytime soon and with Chris of all people. But all in all it did kick ass and would defiantly love to return and spend a while there. After a crazy reunion with Chris (starting to get use to them) we were defiantly ready to begin season 3. We were staying in a great place in a semi-backpacker location but wasn't too over the top.
We spend most of Sunday comatosed from the 24hour journeys and my 16 hour and his 6 hour time differences and went out exploring at what we thought was about 6pm, oh no it was 12 midnight. Exploring the streets of Bangkok starving hungry and getting lost on the way, we found ourselves round the beautiful democracy monument and couldn't believe how many beautiful structures and temples there were at every corner. We turned down a road with a load of bunting which looked pretty cool and then saw it…the wonder that is Kho San Road. We were dazzled with lights, felt the jumping music running through us, shirtless English guys walking around, wasted girls falling over each other. It was like a Disneyworld for drunken Aussies and Brits all in one street. You get to the end of the road and everything stops and continues like normal. It was crazy, we got pasties and walked around the bars and carried on our search for food.
We found we were only about 2 minutes away from the road and found our little area again and had a dinner there, still surprised that not many places were serving food and kho san was pumping at what we thought was 7pm but was actually about 1am. We managed to get some good sleep and try and get into some normal sleeping pattern and ready for the last day in Bangkok. Couldn't believe we only had one day and there was so much to see and do. We started out day walking to the Grand Palace. We asked directions from a great Thai guy who told us the palace was open at 1, the quickly then hailed a tuktuk and told us to take us to a load of temples and drop us back by 1 and even negotiated a price of 40baht…about 20p!!! For about 3 hours of sightseeing. We went to a few temples along the way, couple silk factories, a jeweler factory where I bought a gold Buddha charm and then stopped for noodle soup and dropped us back at the palace. It was crazy, 3 hours and driving us around for like 20p.
The grand palace was breath talking, it was probably the most amazing buildings I've ever seen and I've seen the Taj Mahal, coliseum, Ephesus, the Vatican….quite a lot of awesome structures but this was incredible. We both went on a photo taking frenzy before time was running out and had to catch a train to Nong Kai on the border of Loas. We got to the train station and by this time it was pouring down with rain, we talked about how we thought the central station may be like, I assumed it was like a crazy Asian station with people rushing around everywhere, could hardly move that type of thing. But it was the complete opposite. Very quiet, people sitting on the floor waiting for their trains, chilled music, I've never seen such a calm train station in my life! And I was in Bangkok's central train station.
So we left Bangkok much too soon we thought but were heading back there to catch our flight out so just hope we get more than a few days next time. It's defiantly a city which I missed judged as a place where only the tourists go, it's quite the opposite. If you want to stay in Kho San get f***ed that's cool, you can do that and stay on that road with everything you need, there's even a Boots! First one I've seen out of England. And you can also get away from the tourists as it's such a massive city.
