After arriving from Vang Vieng we spent a lovely few days round Luang Prabang. A really pretty world heritage town with typical Loa style ambiance of chilled out relaxed people. They had a really cool night market dubbed the calmest market in Asia, its true you probably get hassled more walking around Union Streets indoor market on a Saturday morning than this huge night market in south east Asia. We spent the majority of our time just chilling out...possibly the only thing to really do in Laos and more temple touring. Climbing up the 300 steps to the Wat on the hill in the middle of the city is a must but the trip to the over rated Buddha caves about an hour jumbo ride away is definitely a don't. Costing about 60,000kip each for a jumbo to take us to the caves and another 10,000kip ferry ride, it's a nice little trip for the sake of it but the Pak Ou caves are seriously over rated. We had a major panic one morning as I woke up and remembered I left the bag of ALL 5 of our memory cards, mostly full on the bus from Vang Vieng. We rushed to the bus station and managed to tell the guy we left them on the bus who conveniently found the bus which at that time was being cleaned before heading off again. We looked around seeing everything had been cleaned out and thinking we have no chance but sure enough found our seat and the bag had been wedged in between the seats. It was amazing, saving us, mainly Chris from a panic attack and possibly never forgiving me again if I lost his cards! Ha how lucky is that. We were thinking of heading up to the north where we would meet Natalie but as she was proving impossible track down even her whereabouts we decided to book a flight to Hanoi so we could have more time in Vietnam and less time traveling to the north to find Natalie who could be in the north or possibly not! We had no idea. This was Chris and Is first international flight together and we had already traveled to 6 countries together this year. We had our perceptions of Vietnam molded by other travelers opinions and boy was it a culture shock coming from Laos. We couldn't believe how crazy it was just traveling an hour's flight.
