Heyyy everyone whos even following this blog! ok im in Brazil right now...woooooo Brazil!! im in a city called Manaus right in the middle of the Amazon although you really wouldnt think it, well since my last depressing blog, situations have improved, we caught a night bus from Cuidad Bolivar to Santa Fe, im manged to get some sleep with the help of Dans rum though we had a damn police check at 5am...they make you take all your stuff out of your luggage to check for drugs or immigrants,...yes of course a Colombian is hiding in my backpack. Got to the small town of Santa Fe on the Brazillian border and met the posada owner a nice friendly german who gave me lift on his moped to exchange some cash and then i had a walk round town, parked myself down with some old men and had a nice beer watching all the goings on of New Years Eve, people frantically loading as many Polars as they could into their cars while loading the kids on top of the crates, such a fun scene. the town was totally full of life and was so busy, i suddenly got so tired though and went back to the hostel and slept for a few hours, woke up at 6 and started the drinking with Dan and Rowen....i really cant ever remember how i drank rum without it being freezing cold, without ice or limes....its seems totally imcomprehendable now, anywho started the party earçy, got chatting to 3 lesbian sweedish vegans who were really ncie and a couple from Germany and then carried on the party at another hostel with a table of about 30 of us playing drinking games...i found the only other gap year student girl in south america it seems and was sat next to a Greek guy who lives and works in Bouncys Road in Edmonton where mom and dad used to have a furniture store which is now greek store...would have been such a coincidence if it was the same one but he left before i could find out. i then started a convo with an indian who took me and jen on a drive to the mountains and then a walk through the woods for about an hour and came back to the hostel just for countdown...was so fun, we tried and failed to sing auld lang sine, we then hit some club where i danced for hours with this guy from south london, to me we were the best dancers on the dancefloor and i could speak perfect Spanish..although im sure that wasnt the case, but we were doing amazingly for English people. i then spent the rest of the time, drinking, dancing and attempting to speak spanish to the latin guys, got a lift back to the hostel where i found this South African dude who also wanted to go on mission to find cigerettes so we walked on down the street and saw this childs play area where we found this huge statue of a giraffe i flet compelled to climbe on, after the satisfaction of that we made our way into town to see the sight of drunk old men passed out on the floor with bottles of Whisky, we found fags and sat on the pavement watching the people go by...Chris had a bottle of wine and we watched this guy pour half of it on his teeth becasue he couldnt get the coordination to open his mouth...haha, we then were asked if we were brothers and sisters and im pretty sure a couple of drunk foreingers with a bottle of wine, sitting on the street at 5am looking for fags would not be siblings! oh dear, after not sleeping we found breakfast with Rowen and 2 indian guys. still drunk and very dehydrated we decided to hike over a mountain in the heat of the day in search for an oasis the indians told us about, after walking for over an hour we got to this shaded plam tree area and in the middle was a pool of crystal clear water, a small waterfall and a rope swing, was the most beautiful sight i had ever seen and sand at the bottom sprinkled with tiny quartz crystals that glistened in the sun...was like a mirage thats too good to be true. we spent the day in amazement, walked on back to Santa Elena, got some food and totally crashed out. I spent the next day with the group touring around the Grand Sabana and visting waterfalls, we went to like 6 and they were everywhere, the scenery looked just like Dartmoor but wuth huge waterfalls, i was suprised that its where Venezulans spend their camping holidays..so wierd to think about. we then had another fun night of drinking, getting in a pick up truck to some bar, more dancing, getting questioned by the police and then comming back to the hotel at god knows what hour and then leaving to Brazil at 7am. that was such a hard day....the Brazillian broder was closed so had to wait an hour, we missed the bus because the stupid president set the clocks half an hour back so were on different time zones, Dan and the taxi driver discovered they both love this heavy metal group called Cannibal Corpse so i had 4 hours of that to contend with, then a day in Boa Vista and then the delayed night bus, flat tire, stopping to help another broken down bus, eratic driving ahhh 2 days of no sleep i just couldnt handle it!! we arrived in Manaus after a 14 hour trip, got some food and went of and had a day exploring, really nice city, we walked around for hours, went on a pirate boat like at Trago Mills just because it was amazing to see one in South America, realised were hopeless at Portugues, found the harbour and had some drinks out of actaully pint glasses...it was such a novelty to be drinking beer not out of a can or a bottle..it felt to civilised! anywho, im here in Manuas for 5 days when everyones gone on a jungle trip...it was like 100bucks a day so i just though screw that ive lived in africa for 2 months in basic conditions i dont need to pay 100bucks a day to have that privilege again, that south african dude Chris is in Manaus for a few days so probs going meet up with him...yay Freedom i can do what i want...wooo
