Dude, well done for updating! I ticked yes to recommending your journal entry cos I thought it was rather well written. Specially the part 'bout the slaves. That really sucks huh, but I think it's really good you went and learnt about it and hopefully humankind won't be dumb enough to make the same mistake again!!
How are you doing as far as looking for a new project is going? Or are you happy to 'just cruise' (as Sarah says) for a while?
Luv you lots,
Your just-returned-from-Mexico sis.
PS: Thanks for the text!! :)
Caroline

HI Rachy
hope you are enjoying the SEA - of course, if you become a yachtie you can enjoy it all the time..
Giraffes really are the coolest animals out - I know it now having seen them eating tall trees and low trees, and hiding in trees and wandering on an airstrip.. wasn't so keen on the long green snake on our coffee table on the balcony yesterday though.. have you seen snakes in Ghana?
Well, its very hot in Mombasa, and I'm glad of Alices small portable hand fan from Thailand.. Tan very good - how about yours? ( Bet Liv would be impressed with mine..!)
Love you,
mum

BIG news in my life....you know how its Waitangi day/weekend etc...well, glad you asked cause they're having these celebrations and anyway, being the deprived child as i was, i was never allowed those apples dunked in toffee and always had that red cellophane around them...u no the ones...they were always at school fairs...n e way..met holly W in town and she had one and for the first time in my life i tried one!! ...suprisingly sticky and aqward to eat.... and i no im not supposed to go on about food since your main delicacy is bread and yams but there was no one else to tell....and yes i am a nutter......
going to meet some foreign guy called "Fidel" off the ferry tomorrow at 8.30 cause he wants to look at ur giutar...apparently.. so hopefully hes not some murderer and he does actually want the guitar (and pay me for it) so you can get some money to buy me extra presents!! hehe... i'l tell Fidel you say hi.
anyway...talk to you again soon i'm sure..
hope the yams and bread were yummy this morning and everything works out ok!
Love you loads!

Heya Rach
So good to hear that you're having an amazing time! Sounds like you're learning heaps of stuff and all of the people look lovely! Glad to hear that you're not sick either! Especially the kids! I think you should go for it with all the maori singing, come on no one can be as bad as me seriously! :D
Parachute was awesome!! SO so kool! The mosh pit was mean as and although lots of the time i couldn't see anything.. hence the smallness lol... i could always do lots of jumping, dancing and singing! And i had the good protection of Elsa and any other nice guy who wanted to pick me up if i fell down! PLus being small meant i could wedge my way through the people to the front and drag Elsa along behind me! The bands were really good as well and kool to hang out with everyone! Got a nice tan... still have the lovely marks on my back though. We got rained out of our tent the last night, so ended up sleeping next to one of the stages on the concrete floor. Was probably nice and grumpy when i got home!
Will write again soon promise. Can't wait to hear what you get up to next. School next week...
Keep being your amazing self and miss ya heaps

crouch - 6 horses! you crazy horse riding machine! aux will be awesome! remember not to be too much of a rebellious teen and try to be nunlike like myself... hehe
alice - don't you know that its 'illegal' for females to do the haka? i did sing the national anthem in maori yesterday to the vols and the boys at the house but may have faded out when i got to the high part... (no windows to break but im sure my singing could shatter the wood...)
Liv - how was camp? and now are you into a modelling career? expecting a novel by email for my weekly entertainment...
Brita and Heinz - Thanks for the letter! It was the first mail I have recieved here in Africa and was very exited! Showed the other vols the 'lovely house on the hill' that i stayed in and they were very jealous... :)
Goblin - how was parachute? I remember loving although it turned out that a bag of coleslaw and 2 apples wasn't enough food for 2 people for the whole time... hope you didn't starve like me!!!
Mum - I struggle to find sympathy for your lack of power on the boat as we have water about one day in every 4 and power goes off randomly (taking the smidgen of cool air from the fan with it!). But great to hear from you all the same!Say hi to Fenton

Rachy, I think YOU are the one with a gift for writing - you make me smile so much!! I love your update!! It's hilarious...
Did the crazy monkies remind you of that time you had the rock candy in Gibraltar? Man that was hilarious!!
Dust sounds kinda gross, but glad to hear you have figured you don't have malaria!
I take it that ref means you don't take the medicine? But do you have some in case?
Are the kids there so gorgeous??
Liv, I love your list!! Where's mine for the USA? I did teach the Maori greetings at an internaitonal Christian group on Fri: good old "Tena koe, hello to one, tena korua, hello to two, tena kotou, hello to all, haere mai everyone..." song came in handy. Do you remember it? (And so glad to see someone else who knows "Opua E[h]" - I love that song!!
Rachy, I think you should teach the haka...
Mum
HI Sweetheart
Wow, I am SO proud of you kid! So good to hear you have made it AND that you are using your boatie experience in washing clothes in a bucket to good effect!
Yep, mangoes are pretty good right now , aren't they ( tryig to be exclusive here - one African Kiwi to another...) ! In Lamu , you could buy big glasses of frshly squeezed mango juice, but sadly back here in Kilifi, there's none, the thing to charge our fridge doesn't work, and we've run outof gas to cook with! Otherwise all good, and nothing like a diet of tinned tuna and white sliced bread and mangoes to keep one fit and healthy..
love you , and your fabulous blog. Look forward to next update.

Wonderful to hear your news and to see the photos. We miss you but it is so exciting to hear how you are doing as you tackle different challenges; food, teaching, soccer in jandals, the dust........ and there will no doubt be new adventures each week. Just have fun.......... and keep laughing.
Lots of love
Brita and Heinz (and Corinne - shes away at the moment in Hamilton!)
Liv
Impressive impressive! Photo's as well!! And the kids are so BEAUTIFUL!! so jelaous...
These are the tasks for this week...
-ghanaian food of the week (excluding any yams!)
-most african thing you saw happen (and not just kids peeing on the field)
-you to find out one of the longest ghanaian words...find out what it means and tell it to me...should be interesting!
-you to learn how to carry a bucket on your head for 10 steps (no hands)- they do do that in ghana a?(if its two hard im sure your could tie the bucket on with your long silky conditioned blond hair...
-you to have taught the kids at least one Maori song- with your awesome singing skills...can be Tutere Mai Nga Iwi...or Opua Eh...or any other or your choice!
-and if the previous one goes HORRIBLY wrong...can't see how it would...you can teach them incy wincy spider-with the actions!
Good luck...hehe
love you
Liv xx
