Considering it's reputation as the most dangerous city in the east (if not the rest) of Afica, and its nickname of Nairobbery, Nairobi and I are getting along really well.
I'm not sure if it was the fact that the airport joins to the National Park so you truely feel like you are in Africa as soon as you step off the plane, the nice cool breeze that made a pleasant change from the permanently hot climate of the Seychelles (not that I'm complaining!), the friendly people that great you with a big smile or the super good and cheap food that you can get just around the corner from the hostel.
If you turn right at the end of the (guarded and locked with iron gates at night) hostel and walk for about 100 metres you get to a series of stalls stacked full with fruit and plastic chairs outside. For 70 shillings (1 US dollar) you can get a big plastic container filled with fruit salad - paupau, pineapple, avocado, banana, watermelon and the best mango I think I've ever had.
This time I am staying in a 2 bed room and it was my roommate Nyawira's 25th birthday today. So we had hot tea and marmite sandwhiches for breakfast (possibly the first person I have found on my travels that liked the marmite!).
Tomorrow morning I am off on a 2 night/3 day safari - unless a random lion attack occurs I'll put my photos of my trip on blog next week.
