There are so many places in the UK I haven't been and Ben and I have been saying for ages that we'll go awayfor a weekend this summer - Wales, the Lake District or trekking - so we finally decided to go to Cambridge for the weekend. We booked the Harvest View B&B just outside of the city for 2 nights and drive there after work on Friday. It was 27 degrees, we put the lid down on the car and we were there in just over an hour. It was such a beautiful evening, ...
We're in La Paz! The airport is at 4100 meters but parts of the city are as low as 2700m - wherever you are it's still quite difficult to walk up hills/stairs! The city is set between valleys and looks huge from the road running in from the airport. We stayed at Loki hostel which is a party hostel in the centre but the first night was a write off because I was feeling so weak from being sick all day - will make up for it tomorrow! The next day, Saturday, we went...
We decided to fly from Sucre to Cochabamba as it was only 30 mins for £25 (as opposed to an overnight bus for £10) Cochabamba is hot (32degrees) and the people here call themselves Cochabambinos - so cute! There are buses everywhere, they have little minivans going everywhere and the bigger tourist buses are decorated in multicoloured. On the afternoon we arrived we got the cable car up to the 2nd biggest Christ Redeemer statue in the world which looks out ove...
When we arrived in Uyuni we were going to go straight to La Paz but we didn't need to be there for another week (for our Amazon trip) so decided to detour through Bolivia and arrive in La Paz later in the week. So upon arrival in Uyuni we caught a 4hr bus to Potosi, a silver mining city. The trip was via a dramatic mountain pass surrounded by mountains and valleys, although there is no greenery and most of the scenery is earthy and brown in colour. We stayed in P...
We booked our Salar de Uyuni (salt flats) tour with Corderilla Travel to leave San Pedro on Friday 13th November. The minibus picked everyone up from their hostels at 7am and took us to Chilean immigration to get stamped out then drove us 45minutes to the Bolivian border to get stamped into Bolivia and to have breakfast. The altitude rose from 2700 in SP to 4500m at the Bolivian border - this sudden rise in altitude keeps giving me nosebleeds! At the border we we...
