Unbelizeable……(literally)
We awake Wednesday to clear sky and the sea as calm as bath water. Our snorkel gear ready & our groups sorted we head onto the little boats taking us on our magical journey.
At first I was slightly disappointed as for some reason I thought we would be on Pirate style ships cruising the Ocean. Instead we were on smaller boats, about 18 of us packed in tight. The first stop was a taster & to get people used to the snorkeling, the sea was clear as ever but there was a distinct lack of fish so we had a swim about & I got out a little early & had a duttiwind or something with one of the crew (it's a belizian dance or something that I've managed to pick up quite well).
Off we go to Shark & Ray Alley as our next stop. To say I Was excited about this is an understatement!! We arrive & nurse sharks are surrounding the boat, lapping up their freshly thrown in food. After some safety chats we dive in to an immense sight of nurse sharks, rays and loads of other fish surrounding us. The guide picks up & plays with both the shark & rays & gives us the opportunity to stroke them :) & we spend about 45mins swimming around, touching them & taking silly pics (as you've already seen)
We head off to the next stop which is Hol Chan National park & see even more fish, a HUGE moray Eel & also a massive Manta Ray, plus a rainbow Parrot fish & a turtle. You don't need to dive here, the water is SO clear you can see it all snorkeling. I would even go as far to say the water here is clearer then in Thailand :)
After an immense day snorkeling we head back onto the boat for rum punch time! Oh my god the rum punch felt never ending but it was delicious & we all ended up pretty happily pissed afterwards. Watched the sun set from the boat & sailed back to Caye Caulker with huge smiles on our faces. An amazing day, the best I have had so far by a long shot.
That night was a mixture of Isabelle being drunk & hilarious, eating food from random peoples plates (ok she knew them…kinda) & Anna doing shots of fish sauce just for s***s & giggles lol.
Oh I have to also add the day before snorkeling we were sat at the split & we saw loads of starfish & an actual live Seahorse in the water. I NEVER thought I would get the opportunity to see one in the sea, it looked a bit poorly, but still! :)
The next day we literally just ate, chilled & enjoyed our last day. The weather was definitely the best that day with totally clear sky & water eerily still. Had a lovely last meal (I had Lobster, get me) with the girls & a couple of cheeky cocktails & the bar.
The next morning was a sad affair, saying goodbye to the girls. Feels like I've known them years & it's only been a week. Isabelle & Anna, thank you for making my trip more enjoyable x
