Little Kirsty Ventures to Pastures New
2 days till Hong Kong- woo. I've only been teaching 2 full days and I'm worn out. Just can't seem to find any decent ideas for the classes. I'm becoming desperate! I have to teach 40 students for 2 hours straight twice a day and one of the classes just will not listen at all. They don't participate and it takes so much energy to even divide them into groups. When it's hot and I've had little to no sleep, it gets a teeny bit frustrating.
But s'all good cos Aman and I are escaping to Hong Kong on Friday! And I'm gona do some major retail therapy- about time! If anyone has any advice on a good video camera to buy, pleease let me know ASAP.
The school had visitors today- teachers and students from another school in Sabah. Meesa was showing them around and asked us to come and say hello. Was so embarrassing- went over to greet them and 2 of the male teachers just stood there taking pics of us on their mobile phones. Felt like telling the perves to fek off but thought that might come across as being a bit rude.
Aman and I are gona ask Rakeema to take us to a nearby ATM tonight- majorly running low on cash. We each bought Asrama t-shirts- they're really cool- got "Up Up DPM" on the back and the school's coat of arms.
One of the deaf girls last night was sitting alone on a bench looking oober miserable when we walked past (which is very very rare here- the kids are always so cheery so to see someone looking down is a bit of a big deal) so we checked if she was O.K and turned out she had a really sore throat and swollen glands. Enter Dr Kirsty. We fetched one of the young teacher's who didn't really know what to do, so we ended up taking her up to our room and gave her a painkiller (with her permission of course- don't worry mum). And straight to bed with her- think she's feeling better today.
Can't wait till I'm actually fully trained and can diagnose stuff- last night I was just like, emm, could be this or that.
I introduced Joyce and Meesa to Eva Cassidy last night- both were in awe. I've already turned them into 'fico fans as well. Joyce is really good on piano and guitar so I'm gona try to get a piece of music for us to do together at some point.
Meesa never ceases to impress me with her logic and the philosophical points she makes. Like- "better to prevent than cure", "stop, breathe and think"- looadsa stuff- I really need to take note of the things she says. When she speaks, I always think "That's so true". I wonder where she gets her sayings from.
We've been asking the kids recently in lessons where their favourite place in Sabah is and we've received a pretty unanimous response of "Ranou, hot springs". We don't know if this genuinely is the nicest place in Sabah, or if it's the only place they've visited.
But it sounds really cool and although we always intended to go there, I'm keen to go soon. It's near Mt Kinabalu and there are numerous hot spring pools to swim in- sounds niice.
None of the children we have taught so far have traveled out of Malaysia- so that gives you an idea of how they react when they hear of the places Aman and I have traveled too (especially Aman in the last 5 months- she's traveled the world).
Ritie ho. Off to plan tomorrows lessons.
