Montreal Montreal Montreal!! This city is unbelievable for so many reasons! This is going to be long and interesting so enjoy!!
Tuesday morning I went downstairs for my free breakfast you could help yourself to bagels and cereal. I had a bagel and toasted it but it wasn't toasting very well so put it on the toaster a few times then smoke was coming out! One side of the bagel was burnt and the other not even toasted!!
I heard an Irish girl Karen talking well trying to talk to a French guy so I started talking to them then Karen and I got talking and she decided to join me and Martin on our tour of Montreal!
It was a boiling hot day and we had jeans on! We walked up mont Royal which has awesome views of the city (see picture) it was surreal as you were so close to the city and looking up at the buildings rather than down.
We then walked to the old port and old Montreal! Jeez did we walk!! Martin was like it's just down this road which went on for miles and was full of construction! It was about 3 at this point and we'd been walking non stop for about 3-4 hours!! We finally made it to old Montreal and had some LUNCH!! I was starving by this point all I'd had to eat was my none cooked half of a bagel!!
We wondered round old Montreal which was really nice. It had cobbled streets and the buildings were really different.
It's strange being in Canada but everyone is speaking French!! We headed back to the hostel on the metro as we had had enough of walking!!
We chilled for a bit and then the hostel had a pub crawl so me and Karen went along. It was nice to get a little dressed up and put some make up on. The first bar we went to was a micro brewery. It was ok in there. Then we went to a bar called mad hatters everyone sat outside but it was really smokey so we sat at the bar and got talking to the barman Jake. Two guys came in Dan and Ovo and they got us Jamison shots!! They were horrible!! We left that bar and the pub crawl and did our own pub crawl!! We went to loads of bars but they were all dead! We finally ended up in an Irish bar! This guy started talking to me and I realised he was English and asked where he was from and he was from Woodford!! There were 4 of them and they were all family on a fishing trip! They were all older and married but we had a good laugh with them. One of them actually lives in loughton!! Small world aye! I'm not sure what all there names were. One was Andrew and I nicknamed him Arg as I called his brother joey as he had really white teeth and was tanned. There were 40 and 44. One of them was their uncle so I just called him uncle festa! We went back to mad hatters with them and me and arg played pool with some very competitive Canadians!! We lost! It was then time for pizza and bed! It was 4am by the time I got to bed!!!
Now for today Wednesday! Karen and I messaged when we got up and as she was leaving to go to Vancouver this afternoon we meet up at 11 when she checked out and went for a little walk. There is a coffe shop in Canada called Tim Hortons and there are literally everywhere but I'd never been so we went in there. I had an amazing chocolate drink and doughnut. We were in there about half hour and we went to leave so Karen could get the bus to get to the airport for her flight at 2. She went to get her bag and it was gone!!!!! I couldn't believe it could have just gone but it had!! She was in tears obviously it had her passport, 2 phones with all her pictures from her trip, purse, bank cards literally everything GONE!!! We told the staff but they really weren't helpful and we asked them to call the police which they were hesitant to do. Finally though they did and Karen spoke to them and they said they would come over! An hour past and no police Karen is frantic at this point as there was no way she was going to be able to fly. She used my phone to cancel her bank cards and call the airline. I went outside to find the police and saw what I thought were 2 offices so walked quickly after them to find they weren't police!! Whoops!! Back I went to Karen and the police finally arrived! They were actually really helpful it was 2 women one of which looked like Lara croft and you wouldn't want to mess with her!! She took all the details and they gave us a crime number and said to go to the Irish embassy to sort out a temporary passport and they police would get cctv footage from Tim Hortons but it could take days. Poor Karen was beside herself as anyone fouls be and I felt so useless as what do you say to someone who's passport has been stolen while travelling!! Martin had joined us by the point and as we left Timmys we saw Ovo from last night!! We weren't 100% sure it was him do I starred for a bit then he looked at us! Thankfully it was him as he was amazing! He took us to the Irish consulate. Unfortunately the guy we needed to see was on holiday!! Another lady helped though and Karen was on the phone to various people! Karen had to ring her mum and couldn't talk for crying so I spoke to her mum! I didn't really know what to say! We then found out Karen would need to go to the actual Irish embassy that is in Ottawa nearly 3 hours away to be able to get a temporary passport! I'm going Friday anyway so I said I'd just go tomorrow with her as there was no way I could let her go on her own. All of a sudden Lara croft and the other police lady arrived at the consulate to say Karen's bag had been handed in to the police station with her passport in! What a relief!! We literally ran to the police station which was only a block away! Her passport was the only thing in the bag but in all honesty that was the most important!!
It had been handed in at 12 which wasn't long after it was stolen! We asked for the name of the street it was found on so we could go there to look for her purse and it was the next road from where we were in Tim hortons! We were looking round and a guy started talking to us and he was the one that found the bag and handed in it!! What were the chances of us meeting him! He worked on that street and said he's always finding bags!! We didn't manage to find anything else though but thankful the passport was found! We headed back to the hostel and booked Karen in for the night. She sorted a few more things then we headed to dinner it was about 4/5 at this point and all of eaten all day was a doughnut!! I was starving. We went to a pub called the Irish embassy!!
Karen and I went for a walk in the evening and went to the mad hatter for a drink Ovo came and met us in there too. We ordered more food and had a few drinks I went to pay and Ovo had already paid! He was our knight in shining armour! Craig has joined us for a drink too then we went to his apartment, he lives right next to the hostel. Wow his apartment was amazing!! It's probably the size of a normal house at home!
Anyway time for bed now it's been a very long day!!
