Hello Everyone. i'm well into the oz experience now. Staying in a beautiful seaside and party town called Byron Bay. Its so lovely here and really really warm! Plus our hostel has a pool!!!On my first day on the bus we stopped in a place called Barrington which was stunning. Proper aussie outback. We went on a bush walk where we saw Kangaroos and wallabies! We had a fantastic barbeque and we just generally chilled out with a few beers and goon! When it started to get cooler we all got in the hot tub that they had there which was gorgeous. The staff there were awesome especially this one guy Shrek who had us all playing silly games and having a giggle! I have lots of pictures! I really enjoyed myself there. Its right out in the middle of nowhere but theres a brilliant vibe about the place. After that we headed to surf camp! Oh my gosh what an experience. We got there and straight away got into wetsuits for our first lesson. To start with i was pretty useless but after a while i began to get the hang of it and i actually managed to stand up!!! After that we went back to the camp for dinner and songs around a campfire which was lovely. The next day bright and early we had to get back into our still wet wetsuits and go for our second lesson. It was so cold and we weren't impressed at how early we had to be up but once i got into the water i had such fun that i was glad i was there. This time i actually managed to ride some waves. not only was i standing up but i was launching myself unaided off the waves and riding them out!!! I was so so pleased with myself. I would never in a million years have thought i would ever even come close to being able to surf! I realise i have a long way to go yet though! I think when i get further up the coast i might have another couple of lessons because it is so much fun. Of course the next day i had to go out and by a pair of pink boardies (Surfer shorts!!!) so that i look the part. Yesterday we arrived in Byron bay. We went to this bar called Cheeky Monkeys which is really cool and plays fab music. Today i have spent most of the day sunbathing on the beach and generally just relaxing.
