Ez and Kirst on Tour!
hiya!
we're on the last leg of the jouney now!! eek!
so we arrived in mumbai first...in the middle of the night. can't say its the best entrance to a new city/country i've ever had. as soon as we pulled out of the airport there were people sleeping everywhere, more than we have ever seen, just in that journey from the airport. and seeing families and animals everywhere was pretty shocking. so to try and put it so that you can imagine it, apparently 55% of mumbais population are homeless. and after passing some of the slums, our taxi kinda broke down...a little scary! but he managed to get us to our hotel ok. took us a little while to get to sleep after the first time seeing all that.
its a bit better in the day time, but we were a bit scared so got a taxi driver to take us round all day...hard quite a few probs as he couldnt speak english and we couldnt speak his languag!! it felt like it was his first day on the job cos we had to direct hime to loads of places to whih was hard!! even more so cos the map we had was all in english so couldnt even show hime that!! we did have a good day tho, went to this huuge musem/gallery that was v impressive (Very cultured of us!!) went and saw the gate way to india and the taj hotel (think we'll go in there for afternoon tea later this month!)
after all that we went to gandhis house ( the best bit of the day) took forever for the taxi man to find it which made even better when we finally arrived! was v interesting to be there ( thankgod mrs clark made us watch the film and taught us all about it!!)
at the end of the day we found a brilliant cafe which was a bit western but had loads of young indian people so still being cultured haha...which we'll definitely go back to ...the desserts looked lush.
all throughout the day there were lots of children coming up and begging for money...everyone has told us not to give them any, and after not giving to 2 little kids my conscience just couldnt take it so i cant help it....im loads richer compared to them so now just have to give everyone somethin everytime so might come home skinter than i thought!!
our last day in mumbai was one of the most stressful days EVER. had to book flights, trains, post stuff sounds simple but here in india it took aaaall day and included us walking for miles and ending up in mumbai rush hour (i wouldnt recommend it) the streets are just so packed with people and cars going everwhere and stalls and people just trying to make a bit of money polishing shoes or selling stuff. the post office was the most complicated thing in the whole world...it must take quite some effort to makeit that hard to post something!!
so byebye from mumbai!!!
