Kirsty and Rich's Chinese Adventure
So... the next few weeks are going to be pretty mental. We have just under 5 weeks before we leave the UK and in that time we have mine and Rich's birthdays, work, a ridiculous amount of packing, visa preparation, goodbyes and hopefully the arrival of our baby niece Mia.
We have been in contact with our boss from our school in Guiyang and are pretty confident that we are going to enjoy our jobs so the nerves aren't really setting in yet. I am more concerned right now with packing my whole life into one 20kg suitcase (not gonna happen Air China!!!). We are also pretty apprehensive about our 8 hour night layover in Moscow airport :-S. I bought a pack of cards thinking that they might tide us over but after 40 minutes of 'practicing' my attention span had already conked out on me....ohhh dear!
I better let you know a little bit more about where we are actually going on our little (well...quite big) adventure. As already mentioned our hideous flight starts on the 14th October with a shortish trip to Russia where we will be stuck for 8 hours waiting for a flight to Beijing. Rich has suggested a simple plan to befriend a Russian who has access to vodka....typical Rich lol. We will then arrive in Beijing at 1am in the morning and will have to try and convince someone (who will probably not speak english) to take us to our hotel who have promised us that their check-in is open 24 hours! They better be open as tired, jet lagged, angry Kirsty is probably not very pretty! lol. We will then have one day to explore Beijing and get used to being in China before we finally head off on the 2 hour flight to our new home in Guiyang in the Guizhou province in the south of China.
Our first few weeks will involve visiting the school, getting medical checks, moving into our apartment and making a short trip to Hong Kong to sort out our visa's. Then we become official english teachers at Tian Tian (little panda) Foreign Language School and the real adventure will begin!!!
We have no idea how this year is going to turn out but I am sooo glad that we have decided to bite the bullet and go. Even if we have a horrible time and end up getting beaten up by a bunch of 14 year old chinese kids....at least we will have a story to tell!
Til next time...
