Arrived in Sihanoukville to be hounded by tuk tuk drivers, as is the norm, and with no reservation and only an idea to stay some here on Otres beach, we hopped in a tuk tuk. It decided to get a flat tire half way, at which point he convinced us it was cheaper to stay in the area we had stopped, orrchetal beach, so silly us, we believed him and ended up in more expensive accommodation and had to pay the same price for tuk tuk that would have taken us an extra 6km. Let's just say I was not impressed and had my wee huff whilst sitting on the beach (I found out later I had been munched by sandflies whilst sitting there). But the room was nice at Makara, good ac, a safe and a pool out front. We rented a moped to go see Otres beach, which was as I imagined it, a beachside destination with wee huts, sun loungers and clean beach, exactly what I wanted. Spent the day there and found somewhere to stay for tomorrow night. We ate at Pappa Piddo which had the best pizza ever, soo good. After our relaxing day, we headed back to get showered and ready then back to Otres beach to meet Amy and Rob for drinks, had a nice we evening playing pool and chatting. But it ended with a near collision with a tuk tuk.
Me: why is he driving straight towards us on the wrong side?
Kenny: I duno.
As soon as he had passed, I realised it was Kenny driving down the wrong side of the road! Good thing I never realised a few seconds earlier and had him swerve.
The next day we moved to mien mien guesthouse on otres beach. It was just little bungalows, not that great but they had a mosquito net and a comfy enough bed, it was cheap, and it had a cold shower. (Pay extra for a hot shower; no thanks we will suck it up.)
We literally spent the next two days eating, drinking, sunbathing, lying in hammocks, booking accommodation for the next part of the journey, fishing, getting threading done, eating fruit from the ladies who walk along the beach and relaxing, exactly what I needed.
