In exactly 1 week, we will be boarding a plane and heading on our European vacation. With every great adventure, there are a series of mini-adventures that occur along the way, and this adventure is no exception. For the next week, I will be sharing some of our trip preparations mini-adventures.
Adventure 1: Choosing the Right Bag and the subsequently the right things to pack (Part I). Knowing myself I can already predict that there will be a part II to this entry…and probably a part III.
Over the past couple of months, friends have been giving helpful hints on what they packed (or what we should pack) on our trip overseas. We have heard everything from peanut butter to toilet paper. I have been supplementing the friendly advice with information from the web.
Knowing that we would be limited to 1 checked bag a piece and 1 carry-on, and that we were going to be highly mobile, and we were going to be gone for 10 days. The pressure was on to find the perfect bag.
Lazaro and I talked, and decided that a hard-sided bag would be the right bag for us. I went onto the web and ordered a suitcase from Kohls. It had a hardside and it had four rolling wheels. The online reviews were good, so I made the purchase.
In the meantime, we invited a friend over for dinner. A couple of years ago our friend, Tracie, had traveled to multiple countries and said, you need a backpack. You need something that you will be able to move with ease. We said okay, but we have bought our suitcase. We opted for a hardside suitcase so that it won't get damaged.
A couple of days later,it arrived (straight from China-but that is another blog). It was huge. It looked like the type of suitcases that people buy to put bodies in it for later disposal. We looked at it. It screamed tourist, rob me-and steal all my money. While it had four rolling wheels, it would not be very portable. I took it back, and opted for a backpack.
