We have arrived!!
Leaving Athens airport was surprisingly a breeze—we navigated the airport like we knew what we were doing.
We successfully purchased a three day tourist metro card and met yet another wonderful couple. They served on a flight crew for a wealthy individual and as a result were here (in Athens) for the evening before their flight with the family to Italy for a wedding.
Together the four of us began the next phase of our trip getting from the airport to downtown Athens near the Acropolis. Here the adventures began because the metro cars do not readily identify which line is what. Hence a metro car with an orange stripe is not indicating the orange line but really the blue. So after much debate with our found companions we opted to throw logic to the wind and hop on (plus everyone else was on the train). After much laughter and a few planned metro car transfers we parted way in downtown Athens. They left to look for dinner and we headed to our hotel.
Google maps is awesome and after a short 10 minute walk we arrived at our home for the next couple of days. By this time it was about 4:30 pm Athens time!
We got into our room—got a few dinner suggestions from the hotel and we were off again on foot. We followed the recommendations and had a wonderful dinner (forgot to take photos) blame it on the jet lag.
On our way home we stopped at a “grocery” aka convenience store to pick up eggs, cheese, olives, and some fruit and we had another wonderful exchange with the shop owner from Albania.
After a shower—we are beat! We are super excited for tomorrow. Can’t wait to explore this city and meet more people.
