Oh my god, Fiji is the most amazing place I have ever been to!
We arrived last Friday (27th) and when we got to Fiji airport we were greeted with locals playing guitar and singing to us then we were taken to our hotel, wow it was so nice, it was right on the beach. We arrived about 7pm so we just showered had some dinner and went to bed as we were being picked up at 7.15 the next morning to start out Island hopping.
We boarded the boat at Port Denerau and we were staying on one of the Islands further north so it took us 5 hours to get there!! The resort we were staying at was called Sunrise and it was like a traditional fijian village! We had a hut to ourselves, we had a double bed and a single in it with an ensuite, the shower was shocking though it was just a little trickle!! Our hut was right on the beach and had amazing views you should lay on the bed and hear the water crashing against the sand.
We all had to eat dinner together and couldnt start until everyone was at the table there was only about 13 of us staying there. On the first evening we did crab racing, my crab was called Speedy Gonzalus and it went out in the second round, it was between the first 8 crabs, then 5 then the last 2. So at the end when the last two were called out the women said it was my crab and i'd won so I could choose a price from the bar! So i did!! ha ha
The next morning we did some sunbathing then after lunch we decided to go for a walk around the Island to another resort which was beautiful what you'd expect a fiji resort to look like we stopped and had ice cream and had a swim in the sea. When we walked back we had to go over the mainland as the tied had come in but neither of us had taken our shoes and the ground was boiling! it took ages to get back and we were both so worn out when we finally got back.
The following day was our final day on the resort so after breakfast we got out bags to check out and I went to get some water as I felt really thirsty then all of a sudden my vision went really blurry and I need to have water straight away so I asked some guys sitting near me if I could have some of theirs then I walked back over to the bar then the next thing I knew I was laying on the floor with a guy standing above me saying my name, I'd fainted! It was so scary, basically this guy Ben could see that I was about to fall and caught me and lay me down, not sure how long i was out for but Ben was really good when I came around and kept giving me water and talking to me making sure I was ok I was in so much shock and really scared I started crying. I was meant to go on a cave trip with Jen but there's no way I could go so she went on her own and the resort staff opened up a room for me so that I could lay down, I woke up for lunch and felt much better. I hadnt drank enough water the day before on our hike to the other resort so I learnt my lesson and drank lots of water from then on!!
Our next resort was Korovou, it was such a great island, what you'd expect the island to be like, we got a welcome song and drink when we got there and showed to a hut! again it was just the two of us with a double and single bed and great views. Oh and this time we had room maids! ha ha Korovou had a swimming pool which I spent most of my time in! I used to sit in the corner reading my book because it was too hot to sunbath! We went on a villiage and school trip while we were there was really interesting, we got to try Kava which is a traditional fijian drink its made from the root of a pepper plant it doesnt really taste that great to be honest!! In the evenings there was Bula and fire dancing and one evening they got us up to learn the bula dance which was fun, we also did a muscical statues dance competition. We were put in to pairs and I was in the final 2 pairs but came second. Two of the Fijian men took a liking to me! One of them kept asking Jen where I was in the evenings and at the end of the 2 days he gave me his name to add him on facebook. he was sweet but Fijian men dont do it for me!! Jen on the otherhand! he he She took a shining to one of them.
our third and final resort was Bounty, where Celebrity love island was filmed, it looked nothing like it did on the telly and was no where near as luxurious as I thought it would be. We were only there for one night and didnt get much time to explore the island as we got there at 7pm and left at 9.15am the next day as we had a boat trip to go on!
The boat trip was really good we went to the Island that the Tom Hanks film Castaway was filmed and went to a villiage and had another kava ceremony but we didnt have any this time! There were some stalls selling locally made jewellery, and one stall had a little guitar on it with i love fiji written on it, it was only $25 so i thought i'd get it to remind me of Fiji as most Island when you arrive they play the guitar and sing to you!!
The food on the Islands wasnt really that great it was mainly rice, noodles and veg and you couldnt buy food anywhere so if you didnt like the food it was pretty tough. The best food we had was on Bounty, where we had buffet's so you could get more of what you liked and less of what you didnt. I really want to come back to Fiji next year as I doubt i'll be able to afford to come from England!!
We got back to the mainland today and leave for New Zealand tomorrow! sad to leave Fiji but excited to got to NZ so that i can see lisa.
