After recuperating from surfing we jumped in the Jeep and headed down Hwy 50 north.. Driving past sugar cane fields and down the tree tunnel road we began our exploration of Kauai'.
Our first stop was Po'ipu Beach Park. Beautiful place with golden sand and the home to many monk seals and turtles. There was a huge turtle on the beach and we got his picture on the other camera. Many visitors were in beach chairs to watch the sunset, great view!
We continued our quest on road 530 to the quaint town of Kalaheo . I am wondering if we took the wrong turn or don't really "get" their idea of quaint. Continuing up Hwy 50 we drove through Hanapepe, a near ghost town until artist moved in and transformed it into an artist community. They also grow the coffee beans and package their local coffee.
As the sunset got closer we stopped on a pier to get our photos in the town of Waimea. There were locals fishing from the pier and snagged a large shark for photo op only, did not get there in time to get ours:( apparently this area has many sharks !!
Our most unexpected find was The Grove Cafe, beautiful little cottage setting in a grove of Banyan and Palm trees. Our meal was lovely but the setting and company was perfect. It has been a good day.
