Not wanting to sound like a broken record, but yet another beautiful day greeted us. Today's plan was to catch a train to an area bout 40 minutes away form the city famous for its castle - Karlstejn. This was the 'home' of Charles the IV who was the Holy roman Emperor of the Czechoslovakia in the 15th Century. It really is mind blowing when you are walking through the corridors of a building that old!
Karlstejn was a beautiful little town with the castle atop the highest peak. We climbed the path to the top where we purchased tickets for a guided tour. Well worth it as to walk through the history of the place was amazing. So many original pieces that it was quite spooky!
A wonderful day was had before we headed back to town to have a quite hour before dinner. Our apartment had a washing machine in it and we were told that it was a washer/dryer in one. I had my doubts and was very scared when John placed a full load into the deepest barrel I have ever seen. 2 metal door type contraptions then slammed shut tightly, and to be honest, I thought our socks were being transported to some parallel universe:)
With no instructions, we attempted to use logic to decipher the symbols. Now john didn't have a good track record at this, as in Berlin, the cold wash ended up being a boiling water wash, and our clothes now all have a Blue tinge from the new T Shirt he washed. In fact the lemon t shirt I am wearing is now Green:)
Anyway we turned dials and pressed buttons and were as confident as we could be. We waited for an hour - the wash cycle seemed to finish and we waited with bated breath to hear the dryer kick in. Second after second past with nothing but silence. We attempted to open the 'jaws of life' but apparently they weren't ready to release our clothes quite yet. More buttons pressed and suddenly it seemed that the washing cycle had restarted and we were back to square one. I was picturing our poor undies shrinking to within an inch of their lives, but there was nothing we could do. This machine had the controlling hand over us so we decided to leave it to its evil ways and head out for dinner.
Beautiful Italian (yet again) then into town to check out a 'disco' John was busting to try. That man is not meant to dance - 10pm and we were the only poor souls in the place. Dejected we headed home to check on the fate of our clothes. Well their fate was a damp one sadly and we had nowhere to dry anything! So needless to say you can imagine how our apartment looked - we had clothes, socks and undies hanging from every available cupboard, chair, kitchen drawer, fridge, edges of mirrors, and door handles. We were careful not to curse 'jaws' too loudly as I truly believe he would have eaten us during the night and taken us to wherever he took our one missing sock!
Tomorrow is farewell to beautiful Prague and on to Vienna. It truly has been magic!
